I'd be curious how a Spines/Bio would do as a brute/scrapper/stalker.

Combed the forums and didn't see anything. Is scrapper considered the go-to for bio because of damage? Or does brute win out due to survivability?

Thank you for all your testing! Do you you have a mids build for the above that you would be willing to share?

Sure. I used a couple slightly different builds for the stj actually depending on which chain I was testing, but I think this is the one that went with the best chain. Note that it's a small purple away from softcap. If you start the battle with Shadow Meld or proactively use DNA Siphon/Ablative/Parasitic you'll be fine. Not quite as sturdy as something like Ice or Spines which can have large area crowd control frequently, but still fine.

A run with my Granite/SS/Soul Tank,

Musc T4 Radial, Degen T3 Core, Ageless T4 Core, Assault T4 Radial

Rotation consisted of randomly mashing Knockout Blow, Gloom, Cross Punch, Dark Obliteration, and Foot Stomp
In Granite Armor.

This build isn't optimized for single target DPS, it's just my regular offensive build that I occasionally farm with. Intended more for AoE.

Hybrid OFF (No Insps)

4:15 = 278 DPS (changed damage proc to fury proc in cross punch)

4:49 = 261 DPS (changed damage proc to fury proc in cross punch)

4:53 = 259 DPS

5:29 = 244 DPS

5:13 = 250 DPS

I had never tried to take down a pylon with this character before, so this is mostly me flailing trying to figure out how to best execute my attacks on the fly.

Edit: I added two more times that reflect the impact of Fury of the Gladiator Proc in my Cross Punch.

Edit 2: Incorrect Interface. I said it was Degen T4 Core, it was actually Degen T3 Core (no DoT)

I decided to try one time using/clicking Assault Radial. Got a time of 3:15 (324.5 DPS).

Looked through the logs, my biggest Knockout Blow delivered 1260 damage. Pretty solid for Granite (pun intended).

One of these times I should port the build over to Beta and give it T4 Musc Core, just to see the impact. Also need to plug in a T4 Degen Core (I didn't realize I actually only have the T3 Core, so no DoT).

Edit #1: I decided to try it on Beta, with T4 Musc Core, T4 Degen Core, Ageless T4 Core, and T4 Assault Radial. Clicking Assault.

After a couple of bad runs where I started thinking something was wrong with my slotting or possibly a stealth nerf to procs on Beta, I got the mother of all runs. My FF procs weren't firing as often as I normally get (my Hasten was barely perma), but the damage and debuff procs must have been on point.

Beta Run:  2:47 (357 DPS)

Edit #2:  T4 Musc Core, T4 Reactive Radial, Ageless T4 Core, and T4 Assault Radial. Clicking Assault.

After the all-timer run I just had, I figure I switch it up and try the T4 Reactive Radial. It has a superior DoT (25% stronger than Degenerative's) and figure some splash resistance debuffs would work well. Overall, it was good.

Beta Run 1:  3:15 (324.5 DPS)

Beta Run 2:  3:05 (335 DPS)

Edit #3:  T4 Musc Core, T4 Degenerative Radial, Ageless T4 Core, and T4 Assault Radial. Clicking Assault.

Wanted to finish off my night trying out the Radial version of Degenerative. I figure I could leverage my Mud Pots by hoping I can keep the maxHP debuff up enough (despite 25% chance to proc) while also adding extra DoT damage. It seemed to work better than Reactive. Makes sense, since my attacks are slow.

Beta Run:  2:56 (346 DPS)

That's it folks, we've discovered the fix for Super Strength and how to bring it back into mid-line performance with everyone else!

We need to reduce Rage by -15% Damage and add -32.5% Recharge Debuff per activation.

Bopper, you're a genius!

Spoiler

Also, those are some pretty good numbers considering what you have to compensate for Granite >_>

Also also, nerf Rage.

The reason you don't see Spines here is because they are traditionally terrible at single target DPS.  Back on Live, when the pylon test started, I doubt Spines could even overcome the regen to beat a Pylon.  AoE damage is where Spines shine.

I'm sure a spines/bio stalker can beat a pylon in today's game.   But it won't be an impressive time relative to other sets.

I don’t remember if I posted the results here or not, I know I talked about the result in the Tanker Proc Monster thread, but Spines isn’t that terrible. Chain wasn’t optimal either, I was likely undervaluing by testing with Radiation abilities in the mix of a Rad/Spines Tank. It’s obviously not at the top of the food chain, but it was able to fit into the 4:30-6:00 minute window against a Pylon with a suboptimal ST chain choice.

Agreed. When I tested a bunch of /elec stalkers, the spine one came in at avg 410 dps, which is not bad at all. It's not the top of the pack, but it's also not the bottom. That was running AS Impale Ripper with an occasional Barb Swipe.

Beta Server (Justin)

Titan Weapon/Bio Armor Scrapper (carbon copy of my live character from page 3, except with the following changes; basically upgrading my T3's to T4's)

T4 Musculature Core Paragon

T4 Reactive Radial Flawless Interface

T4 Ageless Core Epiphany (purely for endurance; I have enough recharge already to run my optimal rotation)

T4 Assault Radial Embodiment (I did not use the clicky/toggle on any tests; just the passive damage bonus. My times would most likely be substantially better, on average, if I used the clicky. The old testing modal had separate times announced for with hybrid toggle vs. without hybrid toggle)

Offensive Adaptation; needed to turn off Tough.

No outside buffs, no recovery serum, no inspirations. Strictly just what my character has.

Round 2, this time on the beta server so I could have more flexibility in moving slots. I took the two slots out of my DNA siphon (which I normally slot healing IOs for general content) and put 1 recharge into my Build Momentum and 1 -res proc into my Water Spout. I killed about a dozen pylons; here are my times listed from worst to best for each (with and without waterspout listed):

How I started every attempt: Hasten + Ageless (prepull stage) - Begin timer as soon as I hit Build Momentum/or cast Water Spout

Attempts with Water Spout

1:30 = 553.854 DPS

1:26 = 573.670 DPS

1:22 = 595.419 DPS

1:22 = 595.419 DPS

1:13 = 653.069 DPS

Attempts without Water Spout

1:35 = 531.430 DPS

1:35 = 531.430 DPS

1:29 = 558.641 DPS

1:27 = 568.545 DPS

1:25 = 578.915 DPS

1:20 = 607.109 DPS

1:03 = 736.443 DPS

1:03 = 736.443 DPS

Other notes: In case people are wondering how those 1:03's occurred, the common pattern for those times is that RNGesus blessed me and I did not whiff (or no more than once) any of my non-momentum swings (i.e. usually rend armor or arc to initiate momentum) on those. On most of my other runs, I usually whiffed anywhere from 1 - 3 or so of those "initiators", which definitely cut into my times.

Rotation: Rend Armor (activate momentum) - Follow Through - Arc of Destruction - Crushing Blow - Follow Through.

During Build Momentum: prioritize Follow Through - Rend Armor - Arc of Destruction - Crushing Blow.

You got a more up to date version or is this still what you’re running for general content ?

Only scanned part of the thread, but the thing that surprised me from Kael's posts was how well Battle Axe did.  You never see people using that set.  Ice Melee is underrated also.

<flips table> Oh, come on! <looks at his survival-built Katana/Dark Brute doing only 178 DPS and little AoE> Worthless piece of... ugh!

To be completely fair, that Tanker build was min/maxed to hell and back and it was definitely not my "first" take on it. Katana/Dark could definitely get higher DPS without possibly sacrificing *too* much survivability and gain substantial AoE

Here are the "highest damaging" IO slottings overall for Kat/Dark to squeeze out its DPS

<snip>

- pretend that the damage IO here is Bombardment proc

<snip>

That right there will land you solidly in the 300-400 DPS range with fury keeping up and give you -40% res to your enemy. I recommend putting the Fury bonus in Death Shroud :), this will really help you to get more ST DPS and AoE out of your brute 🙂

In my first pass at improving my DPS without sacrificing too much survivability, I swapped Melee out and Assault Core in. I picked up Degenerative Radial rather than... I forget what I had. I slotted the -resist procs in Soaring Dragon and Golden Dragonfly. Probably some other minor tweaks. More recharge I think, allowing me to run Golden Dragonfly -> Gambler's Cut -> Soaring Dragon -> Gambler's cut with a tiny gap not worth filling. Anyway, it brought me up from about 180 DPS to about 280 DPS. Enough for level 54 AV soloing, but still quite the slog.

In my second pass, only on the beta server so far, I was following more of your advice, experimenting today with Gloom like you suggested. I'm chaining Soaring Dragon -> Golden Dragonfly -> Gloom -> Gambler's Cut. I didn't fit in more AoE, and I'm still fighting to get my endurance back to sustainable, but it's close, and it was just fine for the time required to solo a Pylon. I wasn't able to slot Gloom for maximum damage due to my need for set bonuses and keeping my endurance burn under control, but I still ended up in the range you expected at 338 DPS. Thanks!

I did lose a little survivability, but nothing too bad. And I'm still using Cardiac and Barrier rather than Musculature and Ageless. Those would certainly boost the DPS significantly higher again, but that would be losing way too much survivability for my tastes. Still, 338 DPS is enough to make L54 AVs go much faster.

Fire/Bio/Psi Sentinel

At last, T4 everything! (Musc Core, Degen Core, Ageless Core, Assault Radial)

Blaze -> Dominate -> Fireball -> Blaze -> Mind Probe -> Flares

Hybrid ON

2:10 = 422 DPS

2:14 = 413 DPS

Hybrid OFF

2:42 = 364 DPS
2:44 = 361 DPS

Then I decided to hop on Test for something different. Well, OK: what follows was planned all along, and those first few runs were to establish a baseline.

Seeing as I get some flak for my Sentinel builds using the /psi epic all the time and not enough of the primaries... Why not up the ante. Everyone likes Cross Punch, right?

One respec later, we now have an attack chain of Blaze -> Dominate -> Mind Probe -> Blaze -> Cross Punch -> Fireball. Fireball becomes Flares when Opportunity is up, or is replaced by Aim/Hasten as needed. Cross Punch has the Arma proc, the Fury -res proc, and 2 more damage procs.

Hybrid ON

1:57 = 455 DPS

2:06 = 432 DPS

1:58 = 452 DPS

Hybrid OFF

2:37 = 372 DPS (very first run, working out the attack chain)

2:25 = 392 DPS

2:25 = 392 DPS

Woozah! I think those are my best Sentinel times to date. But then, is ~+30 DPS *really* worth standing in melee range for much longer than with just Mind Probe?

At the same time, this build doesn't give up much. We can revert just as easily to the previous attack chain. So there's only slight opportunity costs, in fitting one extra power pick (Cross Punch) and breaking the Arma set in pieces (no set bonuses, and no juicy Fire damage proc for Inferno). Hmm...

Come to think of it, I intuitively defaulted to the "Aim -> Inferno whenever up" routine in those runs. Which is definitely beneficial to ST DPS in "traditional builds" when Inferno is slotted with Arma + Fury, giving a guaranteed -res debuff and hefty damage. However, the Cross Punch build only has an Opportunity Strikes set in Inferno; which means Inferno is probably a poor DPA option here.

-- EDIT: got a few more runs done, skipping Inferno.

HYBRID ON

2:00 = 447 DPS

1:51 = 473 DPS

1:54 = 464 DPS
1:51 = 473 DPS

1:55 = 461 DPS

HYBRID OFF

1:55 = 461 DPS (?)
2:20 = 401 DPS
2:12 = 418 DPS
2:12 = 418 DPS

That 461 DPS run without Hybrid feels a little too good to be true. I probably missed another player slapping a -regen power and dying just before, or somesuch. Excluding that run, it still looks like a slight improvement over using Inferno. >400 DPS on a Sentinel without Hybrid! And now we've gone from a just for kicks evening project to a serious respec consideration.

182.25 seconds = 338 DPS

351 DPS and better endurance management by tweaking Soaring Dragon. 172 seconds average on 16 pylons. I had 5-slotted Hecatomb for the 10% recharge bonus, but that left me with too little endurance enhancement, and too much recharge enhancement, which reduced the effectiveness of the procs, most importantly Achilles' Heel. I removed two Hecatombs to lower my recharge enhancement, and added a +5 Crushing Impact acc/dam/end for better endurance, and a Force Feedback +recharge proc to more than make up for the lost global recharge enhancement, at least for long enough fights. I lost 15% global accuracy in the trade. I feel like my to hit and accuracy are marginal.

While I never drained out, I did get low on endurance by the end of a few of the pylon fights. Maybe I need to break down and take Ageless Radial instead of my beloved Barrier Core. Ageless Radial should be a better solution for defense debuffs, my primary weakness, and nice to have for a few other debuff situations. And filling my endurance bar every two minutes if needed should be more than sufficient to address my remaining endurance worries. But it fails to address my Energy and Toxic damage holes in any way. After the pylons, I fought some incarnate Tsoo and Talons of Vengeance on beta and never needed to hit Ageless for endurance. I hit it a few times for debuffs, though more to get an idea how well it worked than because I needed to. It seems to do the trick, but I need to see what happens with ranged energy enemies like Praetorian Clockwork. I was doing enough damage for a 54+3 Tub Ci AV, but then he started flying around. I gave chase, but it became clear I wasn't going to make any more progress with him flying away constantly.

Definitely tempted to respec into this build on live. I think I have enough Empyrean merits for T4 Ageless Radial, though I can hang onto Barrier for now I suppose, wait to see my endurance become an actual problem rather than a theoretical one.

I don't have a Mids build for this first one. But, the Cross Punch build below would be able to run the same attack chain. If you're not interested in Cross Punch, simply remove the power and put the 5 slots anywhere else.

Dual Pistols/Regen Sentinel

No incarnates

Executioner's Shot -> Suppressive Fire -> Pistols

(+ Hail of Bullets, only once per Hasten gap)

7:45 = 210 DPS

I'm liking those numbers. It can only go up from there.

There's something to be said for not having to rely on incarnates (Ageless). Plus, no /psi epic, woo.

Ought to get boosters everywhere. Probably replace the Thunderstrike acc/dam/end with a Glad Javelin acc/dam, too, and squeeze some extra damage %. Endurance is fine as is, and I haven't done the +end accolades.

Solid. What chain? What about Hybrid? And did you use Moonbeam, Waterspout, Zapp, or none of the above? Proc build or chase-the-recharge? Did you saturate Soul Drain?

Do you think it would be worth losing the Apocalypse set bonuses for more procs in Executioner's Shot?  That power has a high accuracy already and Tactics will cap it.

Using a damage/end Apoc + the proc still gets some general end recovery and keeps the endurance reduction the same as it is.  You could squeeze in Impeded Swiftness, Shield Breaker, and Explosive strikes.  The PvP toxic is an option too if you just want all 6 slots to be procs.

Executioner's still recharges within Pistols - Suppressive - Pistols so the chain is only dragged out by 1.188 seconds.  That's not too bad in practice as it lets you consistently fire Pistols once per 1.848 seconds to fish for procs.  That's just a preference of mine though.  Having ES + SF precede it makes the delay 3.69 seconds which is still enough time to mess with that Decimation Build-Up.

I've given serious consideration to the idea. But lately, my experiences with "just enough" accuracy were disappointing - because I like to solo/duo LRSF, STF and so on on a regular basis, and the amount of tough targets with +def powers is nontrivial (for me). So I'm playing it safe.

For more standard gameplay, your suggestion sounds worth exploring indeed!

Or alternatively, swap Pistols for Dual Wield - as ES and Suppressive can handle the 3.7s recharge. Losing Offensive Opportunity probably doesn't matter too much compared to the gains, at least on paper.

Earlier in the thread, @BrandX posted a no incarnate DP/Nin running ES -> Suppressive -> Dual Wields with slight gap and also doing 210 DPS. Giving credence to that chain.

~210 DPS before incarnates is no joke in any case. Makes me wonder about the /psi epic, just for kicks. 😉 One could run ES -> Supp -> Mind Probe -> ES -> Supp -> Dominate with ease.

I don't think I want to go that route with this character, because DP is just so stylish and everything flows together. Maybe on Test...

Follow a priority system of MG > SL > Moonbeam > Proced out DC > Smite. Musculature Core Paragon, Degenerative Core Flawless, and Assault Core Embodiment. I will post the build below. It is my normal content build at 45% to all positions. The build definitely chases recharge and the only procced out attack is DC. I also did not saturate SD and only used the one stack off the pylon itself.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

Fair points.  I thought about going all procs on my DP/SR before and maybe running Tactics.  I don't need all of the set bonuses I have, but they are my precious.  We wants them.  So backed off that idea and just went with the boring route I tend to go.

I had originally considered doing full on procs with Assault Rifle with /SR too.  That's where I started.  I loaded M30 Grenade with everything it could take, and just said screw it to set bonuses.  Unfortunately, I can't stand playing characters like that so I dropped the idea.  I exemplar enough that I don't like having accuracy drop below 90% for even the lower level stuff.  As a concession to full procs, both builds have 5 slots in Tashibishi of just that.
