What's your point? You're describing things that, as you correctly state, do not require skill. We were talking about about something that does require skill - in both planning and execution.

Back in the day, it was hard for a lot of SG's to build a decent base so the devs did a 'one-time' grant of free prestige per character in the SG. I forget how much prestige it was. However, since it was done without warning, people screamed bloody murder. So the devs said they would do a second grant of prestige per character and announced it in advance. So, people made filler characters to pad people's SG's up to the maximum size. I made a spreadsheet to track the 'trades' (I'll put 12 characters in your SG on Pinnacle if you put 12 in mine on Infinity). I still have the spreadsheet It looks like I created around 690 characters to fill people's SG's.

On the other hand: 1. Involving people in research without their consent is generally considered unethical and requires review by the university's ethics board which may or may not have occurred. 2. What he referred to as "violating social norms", most people would call "being an asshole". It's all about perspective. Was he a dedicated researcher just doing his work or was he skirting the rules of academia and engaging in online harassment?

Well, here's my entirely subjective take on the subject. Some servers are trying all kinds of gimmicks to try to get more players or just for the fun of experimenting. This server is planning for the long haul and currently working on infrastructure, software mechanics and an agreement with NCSoft.

One of my favorite places was way back before the revamp of Faultline. If you recall, the entire back of the zone was sealed off by a war wall and 'inaccessible'. However, if you could fly and teleport you could use the camdist command to position your viewpoint above the war wall and teleport behind it.

My next alt has nothing to do with the update. Back on live, I had taken every tank armor to 50. I currently have a rad armor tank at level 36. When one of my current tanks (I have 4 below 50) gets to 50, then I'll do a bio armor tank as it will be the only set left. I already made him to hold the name - Alabama Slammer - bio armor/war mace (baseball bat). I have no idea what the two after that will be.

Also, there's a TARDIS sitting on the roof of Pocket D. Seems like a waste unless we were expected to find our way out here since it's not visible from inside the building.

Apparently I have way too much time on my hands. I PL'ed this guy so that I'd be able to give tours out there. Sadly, it seems that Recall Friend does not function out there. I was unable to teleport teammates from inside Pocket D, even when I moved closer to the building.

Good luck with that. He can ask me to jump off a bridge, too. 😛

The reward for Dr Q is 122 merits. I think it was 144 at some point, but it isn't now. It would seem that what you consider "a reasonable time" is where the issue lies. Since the devs and most of the players see it differently, you probably shouldn't ever expect this to get changed back.

Okay, turned out to be an amusing problem. She also noted that her video was not performing as well as she expected it to. She asked, "Could I have plugged the monitor in the wrong place?" Sure enough. She had the monitor plugged into the motherboard's video and not the graphics card. Shut down, plug the monitor into the graphics card, and the game works fine. It gave an error message about being unable to load a library. Apparently the motherboard video drivers aren't sophisticated enough to handle this antique game. Our graphics cards handle it fine.

Same for me and my brother's family. His wife made Particle Woman in CoH.

Morale improved to the point where we put the beatings on hold.

50/50 here. Just built two new computers and my game works fine after moving to the new system. My girlfriend's game won't run. What's weird is that our systems are IDENTICAL - all the same hardware, same video drivers, same anti-virus, etc. I have a few things to try. I'll post here for assistance if I can't get it to work.

I just logged in and out, while watching the directory structure, to test this. It looks like the data for all maps for that character is written to the new directory when you log out of the character. I'm showing file sizes as follows: 61K for Ironblade, who has every exploration badge 28K for a fully incarnate tank that has done a good chunk of content 2K for a mid level blaster who has mostly done TF content 0K for a new character that has not moved from the start point in Atlas Park I did not observe any delays in loading or exiting each character. As I currently back up the visited map files nightly, it looks like I need to log in and out of every character to update them to the new file system so I can change my back-up. Overall, looks like a good change and it seems to be working smoothy.

A glitch maybe? Or it got posted too early? At any rate, the thread is not locked and I just posted in it.

Overall, I like it a lot. Ironblade is broadsword/regen and he was the first character I made when I started playing just before the 1st anniversary. He has remained my favorite and most-played character. My only gripe would be that Resilience has such low numbers that it's basically useless. So much so that I have never even considered taking the power - on Ironblade. I DID take it on another scrapper to see if it was as useless as I thought and I decided it was.

Oh sure, NOW you fix this. I've been putting up with that delay since day 1 and I just moved CoH to my new computer 3 days ago. 😛

This. Let me tell a story from back on 'live'. For background, I ran an entire coalition of SG's, I was an officer in a top 10 SG, co-leader in several other SG's, member of Paragon City Search And Rescue and I ran public TF's and trials on Saturdays with open sign-up on the forums. I ran gladiator heal farms, PvP farms, etc. I did A LOT. There was a person, let's call him or her 'Player X'. Player X ran a big SG, ran trials, raids, etc. And, for reasons I could not fathom, Player X was disliked by a great many people. When I ran some of activities, Player X would sometimes join, sometimes with a group of their friends and SG members. And people would ask me, "Why are you letting them join?" And the answer was because I did not have a problem with that person and I did not give a rat's ass if someone else did. If someone found their presence intolerable, they could damn well leave but I wasn't going to tailor my invitations on the basis of who liked what other people.

Exactly. It's remarkable how many people do not know the full quote and use it as precisely the opposite of what it originally meant. So many people simply say, "Jack of all trades and master of none." This suggests that being a jack of all trades is a bad thing. The original quote is "Jack of all trades and master of none. But better than a master of one." i.e. Being a jack of all trades is BETTER than mastering a single trade.

There is a limit on both lists but, IIRC, they work differently. When you hit the limit on global friends and try to add another, it tells you your list is full. I believe that when you hit the limit on global ignores, it automatically drops the oldest entry and adds the new one. I'm not sure about this as I only have two people on gignore.

Characters I don't have on my main server because the name was taken: 1. I was originally planning to play on Excelsior and made my invuln/EM tank Alloy on that server. A bit later I decided to move to Everlasting and the name was not available there. So he's stuck on Excelsior.
