[Community Request] I suck at character creation

I need your help. I love the game, but my love comes from numbers, build optimization, and strategies. However, when it comes to character creation, I dont have the patience to go through every costume piece and every color palette, nor do I have an artist's vision of what I would even want my character to look like. In fact, I have even used Random Costume to create a character (the shame...but it was for a Granite Tank, so it probably didnt matter).

 

So I call on you, the community, to be creative for me. I would like for someone to design a good looking character that they can share (either via file, or list out the options). I'd like to see screenshots of what is designed, and when I make my next character(s), I will copy the look that I like best (or fits best to my build).

I think you would have better chance down in the Art & Multimedia section. Maybe provide your powersets and origin and people will go to town on creating character designs for you.

Dislike certain sounds? Silence/Modify specific sounds. Looking for modified whole powerset sfx?

I'm probably not a good choice for advice on this, my default is jeans and a T Shirt.  Why you ask?  Well, have you ever tried getting Hami goo out of that fancy leather costume?  Just go to Wally World and buy new, it's lots cheaper. 😀

as has been mentioned.  You have given ZERO design parameters besides you want a costume

 

okay. So here goes.  Make a Huge Male.  Yes the choice is important. All of them are.  Take the robot template.  Change the legs to armored from monstrous. Slap on mecha armor. Put a mecha armor belt on it.  Change torso to robot 2 arm.  Use clockwork arms.  Use mecha gloves. Mecha shoulders. Mecha belt. Clockwork chestpiece. Brain in jar head.  If you have a small character concept drop the height down to 4-5 feet on sliders. For brute or tank crank the height up.  Boom. One costume. Color to choice

@Bopper as mentioned by others, just like how you can optimize the slotting/IOs/math for someone only after they choose an AT and/or power set, for art (I'm a music artist, not visual artist) one can only create within confinement.

 

True free form is oblivion.  There is no number/math optimization if the power sets and PPM aren't already set.  There is no music without previously understood structure or at least a feeling.  Creativity occurs within confinement.  Someone asks you, sir God Bopper Sir, "what's the best power set and build to make the best brute?"  You ask them to give you a theme or power set or ask "best for what?  Raiding?  Farming?  Etc"

 

Thus, there is no "super creative costume" without an idea, ideal, an example, a reason for being or at least a power set.

@Snarkyand @Obus Formyou bring up good points. My willingness to not confine creativity very well may paralyze that creativity without some direction or momentum provided.

 

I typically do giant characters, but I want to get away from that. So I would like a normal or slightly below average sized character. I want the character to be human. I want the character to be female. I want the character to be a badass, and they will likely serve a support role.

 

I also like dynamic color. Nothing dreary, but vibrant. It doesnt have to be all vibrant, but at least accents that would pop out. 

 

That's still fairly vague, but I hope that provides some direction in hope someone can take it and make something unique come to life.

Bopper, no shame in that at all. I usually press random until something interesting comes up and I'll tweak it to my liking. I even save several of them and quite often change the colors for another character. Think Scorpion and Sub-Zero. 

 

Hell I don't generally put much effort into names. Thoughtless, Bung, Lexicon, Inventory, Paper, Placeholder, and Worthwhile are a few examples. 

 

But I'll spend all kinds of time trying to get 3% more recharge into a build without sacrificing any defense.

If it's any help, I tend to take 1 of 2 approaches to creating a character:

 

1. See what's already out there, and create my own homage/interpretation or put a new spin on an older/existing idea.

 

2. Find a particular color combination or a chest+legs combination that jumps out at me, then build a character up from there.

 

For an example of 2, I really like how the retro sci-fi armored top goes with the justice pants, (regular), and have built several characters off of those 2 pieces alone, (see example here).

Sorry guys, no power sets decided yet. If Electric Affinity was closer to prime time, I would say that. So if it helps, aim for something electric, and I'll use it eventually.

Woah woah, big assumption. We dont know when Controllers will get EA. Do defenders have a Plant Blast yet? Perhaps we can throw seeds and fruit at enemies.

Fair deal. But it is fair to say that the likelihood of me making an electric/energy character for any AT is a safe bet (electric melee, armor, control). So if designing for effects, choosing electric is safe. The other way is to assume I go with a min fix character/powerset, and the design choices there would be more real-world looks.
