Things I Learned the Hard Way

Big-time bosses can't be taken down by one character, probably.  The very first time I ever ran across one I had been invited to a PUG to fight the Clockwork King.  My scrapper (who was a fifty after all!) goes skipping across the map and saw CK just you know standing there, so jumped right into it without any teammates.

Tim "Black Scorpion" Sweeney: Matt (Posi) used to say that players would find the shortest path to the rewards even if it was a completely terrible play experience that would push them away from the game...

Ouch!

Although I think the real take away is more along the lines of unless you know the foes abilities assume it can kill you.  In this case most likely right through a gaping hole of minimal psi resist/defense that seems woven into the fabric of nearly every older melee set.

(Honestly, Self Destruct is probably best left on the P2W menu. You can use it on a Master task force run, or at least it's not grayed out. I can't imagine that would end well for you, even ignoring the "you blowing up" part.)

It will get you out of babysitting Captain Hotpants on an Underground run, though.

A simple premise so many fail to grasp...

Never stand behind the tank, that's where the damage is

When playing as tank I learned to jump to the opposite side of the mob so enemy cone attacks won't blast the rest of the team. 😉

I always try to turn the AV or monster away from the team, but there is always one who doesn't get the memo....

Don't attempt a respec when you have pending level ups. The respec will fail and all your enhancements will disappear until you relog. Pretty scary the first time.

Really?  I've done this more than once recently and not had a problem.

Same.

Especially annoying when the one who didn't get it was the Blaster trying to punch the Kronos Titan to death in a MLRSF; I don't know if they had a base macro or not, but they certainly didn't hit it in the 2 seconds it took the AoE damage to kill them.

The one who doesn't get the memo is usually the Brute who has decided they're soloing the TF up until that point, in my experience, and stand in the middle of the squishies with their taunt aura pulling the AV's attention away from the tank.

Have heard of a lot of people having respec fails due to this issue.  Or at least it fails, they train up and try again and then works.  Could be just a coincidence, but  I figure better safe than sorry.  I always make sure I'm fully trained up before I do my respecs.  Not sure why there'd be any particular reason you wouldn't want to fully train before a respec anyway.

Laziness.  Just stumbling across a new build that I want to move to.  Rethinking what I already have, or because I wasn't following any build until I got one to go by after playing the character a bit.

If I'm about to swap out for a new build, why waste time assigning the extra slots and powers now before respeccing out of those extra slots and powers?

If you start a Strike Force underleveled, then level up during it, it still locks you down at the lower level, even if you log off and back on the next day, swap leaders, etc.  Found this duoing Mistral with a friend, man I wish we'd gotten Shivans before fighting that +3 ArchMage Archus with +3 Succubi at the end who should have only been +2. . .

... I'm afraid I'm going to have to necro this thread... 😞

The "replace enhancement" prompt exists for a reason.  That reason is so that you don't replace a super-expensive IO that you want to keep rather than the throwaway one right next to it.
... I put a purple on top of another purple.  It still hurts. 😢

I really wish that when this prompt came up, it highlighted the enh you were set to replace, because sometimes I'm click "OK" without realizing I placed the enh in the wrong slot.  I also wish that there was an option for only getting this prompt for PvP and Purple IOs instead of for every single enh (because clicking "OK" just becomes automatic at that point).

Want more from Praetoria? Check out my level 40+ Praetoria missions in AE! I've got 3 complete arcs so far.
Praetorians can get to AE in Pocket D by going through Studio 55.

Always sell salvage before recipes and enhancements, so you don't list an Apocalypse for 18M, and 10 pieces of Ceramic Armor Plate for 18M.

There are people who don't just vendor white/yellow salvage ? I keep a stockpile of orange in my SG storage just so I don't have to buy them to create purples, other than that pretty much everything but very rare recipes goes straight to vendor. If it doesn't sell for at least 1mil it gets vendored.

The old Notoriety System:

The difference was when it first came out I didn't realize what it did and failed to read the whole screen. So of course I chose for the City to see me as Invincible, as opposed to Tenacious or Heroic. Took a while before someone asked why I was running with the difficulty cranked up and getting face planted all the time. That explained why everyone was Purple, what a dumbxxx.

Hitting Secondary Mutation in the middle of a fight is a HUGE gamble.

Are you kidding? I put the thing on autofire and watch the hilarity ensue when I suddenly start running around farting Rikti monkey farts at the enemies.

It really doesn't happen that often and it wears off pretty quick.

But, I guess if you are the team's tank, I can see where it would be an issue if you just taunted and then turned into a Rikti monkey.

Things I learned the hard way?

Don't post or buy from the market while your tired.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I don't get it 🤔

If you never pay any attention to your own health bar, it's all too easy to glance at the team list, think "Hmm, someone's about to plant, who is that?"  followed by the "Do you want to go to hospital or your base" dialogue box appearing on screen....

Tunnel vision is only useful for moles 😉

Apparently there are, yeah.  I craft every yellow recipe and convert it to rare, then pitch it on the AH.  Whatever white/yellow salvage I have left over beyond 10 of each, goes up for 6.  I don't bother crafting orange recipes unless it's something I'm going to use on a character.  Whenever I get over 1.96BN inf, I buy Super Packs until I'm back down to 1.96BN.  At this point, I roll characters just to store the excess ATOs.  You aren't going to market-shame THIS guy.

Anything you can have, we have it.  Even got a devil in the attic.

*raises hand*

I sell white on the market for 255 so I'm getting as close to the vendor price and also working towards the badge.  Yellow can sell for a grand a pop so why throw away money, even if it is just pocket change?  I don't play market tricks to roll in billions so I still think of "money" as "money."  I check all my recipes on the market before I sell them without crafting, because I can't keep track of what does or doesn't sell and often get surprised.  Generally, I craft and sell anything that goes for a mil+, probably because I'm a dirty plebe who worries over a mere several thou from yellow salvage.  😃

I almost never vendor (common/uncommon) salvage. The order of checks is usually:

  1. Check to see if I have any dropped recipes worth crafting (burns salvage from inventory and SG racks)
  2. SG empowerment buffs
  3. Check SG racks for necessary refills. I waste SG space but save time (traveling to/from base, using the AH) by keeping ~10 each spares of common/uncommon salvage in racks.
  4. Sell extras on the AH

When I am doing bulk crafting, I never work with recipes that require rare salvage, so occasionally I have to clean out (via the Auction House)  the "rare salvage" SG racks of specific pieces that aren't being used and have a large inventory count. Otherwise the rare pieces are used for one-off crafting of PVP/Very Rares, and certain other Rare recipes.

I could be slightly more efficient with storage in my personal SG base (by relying only on the AH for salvage, or using individual character's Vault) but I don't have the headspace (or the desire to maintain a spreadsheet) to keep track of particular salvages/recipes.

I'm with you on this one.  I know flight is the slowest travel power, but to me full control of travel in 3 dimensions is worth it.

Its also the only travel power that you can set "auto-run" to keep flying, leave the room to get a snack and come back and find yourself close to the mission, instead of running stuck against a wall.

This is super useful when soloing and switching to other windows while gaming and multitasking.
