When a person online goes dark it can mean a multitude of things.

 

I have experienced situations where somebody I cared greatly about suddenly vanished and it was not until much later I learned that they had died, unexpectedly.

 

When someone disappears, we can respect their actions but knowing they are safe and have moved on at least gives us a chance to  move on ourselves without worrying about someone we've come to enjoy and respect  having experienced serious trouble.

 

It's common courtesy on @Snarky's part to let us know and, just maybe he can be persuaded to remain and bite another day.

 

Along those lines, here's hoping this didn't come from him being in a "bad place" and he's suddenly stepping back from something that (pure assumption here) brought him joy before. His posts of late seemed, to me, to be a little toothier than usual (Vampire humor) and that's hopefully just stress from the holiday season that many of us deal with in some form or another and not something else. We all forget at times that we have clue zero what the person on the other side of the screen may be dealing with. (And yes, even Diantane, who I do take shots at)

 

In short, here's hoping this isn't something bad going on and Snarky, as well as all of us, can come here, enjoy discussions, disagreements and the usual tomfoolery.

The same sort of thing happened to me on the ESO forums.  I said something snarky (ironically), then offered an apology, even though it really wasn't all that bad, and I HAD been provoked... and despite that they decided to give ME a warning.  I inquired about it and they doubled down, so I haven't posted there again for around 4 years.  I can't abide injustice.

 

That's why I think they overstepped the bounds, and I understand Snarky's response.  I saw that thread, and didn't see anything worthy of a warning.  Good lord, I've been frequently lambasted on this forum myself, and saw nothing even close to that in the thread in question.

 

I'm sorry it came to this.  I hope he'll reconsider.  Either way, I understand his outrage.

There were a series of posts, still there, that directly insulted Captain Powerhouse (because of a 2020 post in a different thread). Also within that series of posts was some dancing around direct insults by insulting the expressed ideas motivating the thinking from the CP post, which *might* have been acceptable (even if the particular representation of the criticism was *childish*), but several posts in a row making direct insults wasn't necessary to the discussion.

I can relate. Got into it (in PMs) with mods from The Big Purple over them giving me a warning while giving a succession of passes to a longtime poster/troll. They decided to slap a short term ban on me. I wrote back that they could go fuck themselves and my time there was done.

 

I'd probably do things a bit differently today.:-)

I didn't see him say he didn't insult anyone, just that he was leaving because they gave him a warning for it. He banned the homecoming forums from him.

I know I have run one Virgil Tarikoss SF with Snarky. It went well, which is not always the case in that final mission.

It's hard to convey sarcasm unequivocally with just text, and certain conventions like "@BEGIN(Sarcasm) [sarcastic remark] @END(Sarcasm)" were niche usage even before they largely fell out of use.
