JJDrakken Posted Thursday at 09:28 PM Posted Thursday at 09:28 PM (edited) I am a 1 man SG. I literally don't invite people to my SG, even when asked. Somehow I must of. (Not sure how or when, most likely a wrong invite out of chat window). That seems to happen a lot, I get server friends showing up, I have no idea who they are. Anyways, noticed a name that was not mine in my SG, saw the global. Was like, don't know who that is. Kicked em, then I started to wonder. Went checked my storage of enhancements & salvage. (Half base stuff can only be accessed by me, other half was when I had RL friends playing, before they stopped or passed away). So those where open. Needless to say... they are empty now. Folks wonder why I hate humans. Needless to say, my fault for not catching that sooner or when it happened, still don't know how. (I'm pretty careful with that stuff). Oh well. arcane Posted Thursday at 09:33 PM Posted Thursday at 09:33 PM That blows 😞 my friend never set the proper permissions and had a rando take all her stuff too, a few months back. I’ve noticed the same thing with occasionally finding I have a server friend I don’t recognize. Presumably because I right-clicked them and touched some hotkey. I also seem to frequently touch whatever hotkey is for unfriending, but thankfully that comes with a prompt. 1
Healix Posted Thursday at 09:39 PM Posted Thursday at 09:39 PM I'm sorry that happened to you, JJ. Whoever it was that robbed you, I wish them early transmission failure on the freeway at rush hour... 2 2 1 Forever grateful to be back in my city!
Skyhawke Posted Thursday at 10:10 PM Posted Thursday at 10:10 PM That sucks and yes, what the hell was that person's problem? Who gets invited to a SG and just decides, "Well, I guess this is all mine now?" Oh, wait, @Healix already told us. 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Glacier Peak Posted Thursday at 10:34 PM Posted Thursday at 10:34 PM Damn that's rough! I didn't even know the storage containers had permission until I got to Homecoming! Techwright Posted Thursday at 11:25 PM Posted Thursday at 11:25 PM Sorry that happen JJ. I've recently noticed some odd names in my own army-of-one SG. They've probably been there a while and are likely the creations of a life-long buddy of mine, a former player, but the names don't seem like the kind he'd invent. Weird. I actually wondered for a few moments if my SG had somehow been hacked. At least I have all my stuff, and nothing in that base was purple at the time. I am curious though: how low did you set the bar for salvage access? On mine, I promote all my characters to second rank and set the salvage access to only the top two ranks. That way, if hypothetically there were an accidental invite, I'd have to agree to and physically raise the other player's rank to second-to-top tier before they could steal...er, acquire my goods. Having just reviewed my SG roster again, I'm impressed with the need for the roster to also display or link to the global for each character. That way, you'll know who is stealing in a case as you describe, or can check with the global account to settle any other awkwardness, such as "who are you?" in my case. 1 1

As I said, I Half the Storage(Enhancements/Salvage) in the base can only be accessed by Officers and Higher. Other half was just generally open to SG Mates, cuz again at the time. It was friends I've known for 20+ years. I didn't keep much in those anyways, just habit to stick stuff I wanna keep in my half. But If I recall I had Full set of melee single target Winter set and and a set of that new Cupid set. In others, cuz I was just dumping quick in em. Fire & Forget kinda of thing, since I'm literally only person in the SG anymore. (I've removed all rest, just my toons). But again, saw that name I was like who is that? -shrugs- It's done & over. Just here to remind folks to be careful. I had changed the Salvage of that half other day to just my access. Cuz it has Costume Aethers filling em up. (Trying get to get to 250 for tiny costume for 1 toon, but I'm in no rush). Edited Thursday at 11:37 PM by JJDrakken 1 1 2
Sanguinesun Posted Thursday at 11:43 PM Posted Thursday at 11:43 PM If you share an SG with others, be willing to lose anything you put in its storage, this is like MMO 101 stuff. Even people long term you've known and trusted will strip it clean. Cant tell you the number of times this used to happen on Retail CoH, WoW, etc. If you have valuables you dont want taken, always keep them on an alt's SG that you never, ever, invite anyone to. 1 3

HeroPerson001 Posted Friday at 05:05 AM Posted Friday at 05:05 AM Hey JJ, I've looked at your builds for inspiration (thank you!)... and today and came upon this post by accident. I'm sorry that this happened to you. I wonder if this happened b/c of mouse usage? Often on a team I might click on a team member to make them a waypoint (the leader or tank or maybe a dead person so I can find and revive them). When I go to make a person a waypoint, there's a context menu (if I recall -- connectivity issues prevent the game from coming up atm)... and one of the options in the context menu is "Invite to Supergroup". A while back (two or more years) a couple people said to me (seemingly out of the blue) "Thanks, but I already have a super group." I was like, "What?" Then the next time I tried to make someone a waypoint I realized what was going on. I was accidently selecting that context menu option. So there is the option to set permissions on bins... but also (for added security) possibly make only ONE character of your super group the leader with the permissions to invite to the supergroup -- i.e. your alts. Then on the context menu with all your other characters that option will not be there and will not be done by accident. I'll change the leader (if I want to play the leader character)... everyone else is a commander... or whatever the next lowest rank is. In furious battles I've clicked some things accidentally, but that option (to invite to supergroup) was the most annoying of all. Anyway, just a thought! Best Regards. 1

The only way to 100% guarantee you dont have such things happen if you truly dont want something lost is to have things in on an alt's SG with no access except you. Sorry you got pilfered but hopefully you'll be a wiser for the wear. 2
Ghost Posted Friday at 12:29 PM Posted Friday at 12:29 PM I know the accidental invite seems to happen during combat. Ive been on TFs a few times, and had the message pop up asking if I wanted to join a SG from one if the players Im teaming with - it always happens in the middle of battle. 99.9% of the time when I ask if it was an accident, they say yes. Having your stuff stolen does suck, and I’m sorry that happened to you. 1
BZRKR Posted Friday at 12:45 PM Posted Friday at 12:45 PM Isn't there a transaction log tab on the storage units?

Yep, there should be a full record in there of who took what and when. However I am not sure if removing a character from a SG also removes their transaction log history. Sorry you got pilfered but hopefully you'll be a wiser for the wear. The problem that you’re not addressing is the fact mentioned above that people can be invited to a 1 man SG by accident. Hotkeys and whatnot. Apparently JJ’s done it and I know I’ve received accidental invites from unaware teammates multiple times as well. That said, I feel like the right permissions settings would address that issue? Not sure what JJ is doing there.
Riverdusk Posted Friday at 06:07 PM Posted Friday at 06:07 PM Had this happen, although very rarely, as well. For me I know exactly why it happens. I use right click hold to readjust the camera and sometimes I hit a player with my mouse when I do, That opens a menu for them that includes "invite to SG" and sometimes it just happens to perfectly then hit that option for them. 1

You're getting thumbs-down reacts because whether or not you intended it, this comes across as callous scolding and an utter failure to read the room. When someone vents about their misfortune, you should generally either offer sympathy and commiseration, or remain silent. Unsolicited advice is hit-or-miss; maybe they'll appreciate it, maybe they won't. But the tone of that unsolicited advice makes a huge difference in their reaction. A condescending, flippant, callous tone is virtually guaranteed to just make them think you're a heartless jerk. You definitely shouldn't mock them, unless they implicitly invite you to by deploying self-deprecating humor. But the OP's tone was dead serious. To use your own words, this is, like, Social Interaction 101 stuff. 1 1

Not backing up @Sanguinesun's comment at all but I find that when reading anything in strict text format, it's best to read no emotion into it at all, otherwise the reader tends to impart their own emotions into what was written. I found the post to be rather matter-of-fact and though a bit blunt, not on the rude side. I try to keep that in mind when responding to a topic, especially a hot one where fingers are flying and posts are coming in fast and furious. That I type as fast as molasses in winter allows me the time to re-read my own posts before hitting the submit button, so that the wording is as neutral as I can make it. 1 Dislike certain sounds? Andreah Posted Friday at 10:27 PM Posted Friday at 10:27 PM That really sucks. If it happened to me, it would really take the wind out of my sails. I'd hope I could get past it -- and what would help me do that is remembering how many truly great people there are in our community who would never do such a thing. 1
Stormwalker Posted Saturday at 05:15 AM Posted Saturday at 05:15 AM Man, that really does suck. What kind of person thinks doing something like that is OK? And in a freaking superhero game, too. Of all the environments you might think would discourage theft...
Healix Posted Saturday at 10:07 AM Posted Saturday at 10:07 AM Folks with that kind of mindset are everywhere. Family members have stolen from their own families, spouses have stolen from spouses, the government/public agencies...er,uh...never mind. And so on and so forth.
