Spines/Fire?  No.  Any farmer at all?  Yes.

I don't think the player base on the forums is really representative for all of those who play. I don't think players as a default have a farmer. Just having a level 50 can get you a lot of rewards. Cost of pimping out builds on HC is cheaper or at least easier versus live.

/regen just needs more investment and /wp will be a smoother ride. /regen also has a well known character and others giving it the needed eyeballs. It is tougher to think of a superhero who has willpower versus regen or invulnerability.

Thank you for the info!  I couldn't believe my eyes that Spines and Fire were the most popular set choices for Brutes.  Who knew?

Maybe among the people you run into, but if you're a farmer you're going to run into a lot of other farmers.  That doesn't mean everyone farms.  A lot of people find it really tedious and would rather poke their eyes out with a spork than farm, let alone roll and level a character for the sole purpose of farming.

Great job!

Of course immediately it appears there might be a correlation between posted builds on the net (going back to live), hype (fotm now and then) and lack of creativity (min/max copycats).

Maybe that's harsh.. but it's really hard to roll a truly terrible combo.

Kind of on this note, I did make my Spines/FA Brute got him to level 31 (general content and some AE) to find out what all the hype was about.  The Spines power animations are a huge negative to me.  There he sits at 31.  Not sure I'll pick him back up when there's hundreds of other character slots left to fill!

I'm not quite a unicorn, but it looks like I'm the closest we've come so far:

Blaster

160 Sonic Attack Fire Manipulation 2

Charredcore, Everlasting server.  This is a really strong combo, too.  Been having a lot of fun with it.

I also have a Demon/Traps MM at 50, of which there are only 4.

Everlasting: Charredcore-Head.gif.295932ce0b7f285ede7cd6f7baa92107.gif Charredcore (Sonic/Fire Blaster) Fleabitten-Head.gif.b2329ba8bd4533efc403330511a55b3e.gifFleabitten (Savage/SR Brute)  And many, many more!

With all the grumbling about SS, it's still nearly 3x as prevalent as the next most preferred secondary for Tanks...

Sorry, I'm gonna laugh over this.

Also why theres 3x as many people complaining about it being crap in that thread. People play it because they wanted it to be fun, it not being fun is because it has a crap mechanic, hence theres hundreds of people out of the thousand who chose it complaining on the forum. The rest just dont post.

Apologist and talk around it not being bad all you want. its still bad. Its just bad for a lot of people, which is why theres a huge thread on it being bad.

I rolled a D/d and Psy/d. I might only keep one. My problem is I absolutely love Water and so far have gone /ice and /temp with it so I never devote that much time to /dark. /dark don't do much for Water either or at least in a standout way. Water/dark would be interesting with Water's mitigation and Death Shroud. That's about it for something to lure me.

Yeah because 999 out of the 1100 people who picked super strength find the mechanic broken and terrible they must all be wrong and clearly you are right. apparently not enjoying standing around for 10 seconds every minute in trade for mediocre performance is lazy. Just to be clear, I have hated rage since live, because -9999% damage should never be a mechanic in the game, and now with the -def penalty on top its just crap flavored icing on a poop flavored cake.

But anyways, we can agree to disagree in that thread. It is interesting to see the numbers on how many picked ss, I truly wonder how many actually play the toons still after hitting 50, and how many of those play without rage at all to avoid the badly thought out mechanics. I know I rarely if ever play mine anymore, and every time I do I think of how I could be playing one of the many fun characters I have instead and performing better to boot.

Cool animations, iconic powerset. Terrible +dam mechanic.

What a shame, really.

Okay, if you're "standing around", you're doing it wrong.

Play Marine almost every day, have Perma-Rage, and with all the Resist Damage Invulnerability Gives me I really don't notice it drop. My Set bonus's and Incarnates compensate to the point where I really don't have to stop and wait for anything. I suppose with more Defensively based sets it could be a problem. Personally I take what they give me and turn it into a steak dinner. Just glad to be back playing him and I've always tried to not be the squeaky wheel, so I just consider it a normal part of life to have to deal with changes and challenges

The ability to use 2x XP packs to get 50 all the quicker and having a way to farm content to offset any influ loss seems fairly obvious why Spines/fire builds happen.

I did the Patron arc with mine and got it to 44. I think I see the end of me using it though. I think instead at some point I'll delete/rename the character so I can use the name for something outside of AE and work in a TW/bio brute who can still do S/L maps while being regular content viable. Hell, if my level 32 Claws/wp brute can solo regular content at +2/x4 with nothing but common IOs, a TW/bio brute will be more than fine. I've done Spines in other builds. I've made it truly look good once. The lack of ST is frustrating. And /fire? (chuckles)
