So I don't know if this would be better suited as a power pool or a full-on powerset, but here goes: Basically, your character would utilize a pair of gauntlets, (really it'd just be whatever gloves you had as part of your costume), to generate a variety of attacks. Basically, think of a Mandalorian's weaponry; You could have shocking punches that can stun, toxic darts, flame jets, cryo sprayers, etc. It'd be a mid-range set that would offer a variety of abilities, without excelling in any one area. I figure the animations are pretty much in the game already, it'd just be a matter of attaching various effects to them. Heck, you could even include a medical dispenser to provide a healing ability, if desired...

A max level character has never been my goal
biostem replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
One of the biggest issues for me is the "early draw" of a powerset vs its long-term appeal. Some sets mature earlier than others, and that can make getting into that character easier, while others either need certain later powers or slotting in order to truly come into their own. CoH has a fairly good mix of both, but it can definitely be an uphill battle to see come through to completion. I consider myself a patient person, but if I spend most fights either waiting for my powers to come off of cooldown, then I'm going to consider that character a fail, in terms of power performance. A good costume or concept can sometimes help you over that hump, but I frequently find myself looking toward the next idea that may perform more to my liking, instead of sticking with one that is struggling... -

I felt much the same way. I watched a few of the initial seasons, but once they started going into time travel and such, (trying to avoid too many spoilers), they lost me. They also frequently fell into the "have all this awesome tech but fail to utilize it properly", category. I would have rather, as you touched on, that they stuck to addressing lower level events that took place between the major theatrical releases...

Reasons Goku would body Superman

There's only 1 factor that matters: who is writing this fight, because all the historical feats or calculations won't matter... -
Can you build around pool powers as main attacks?
biostem replied to Mashugana's topic in General Discussion
This right here should, IMHO, should be the main determinant in what you play - if you find a particular power or set fun, then play it! I would still suggest, if this is your main drive, to pick an AT and powersets that compliment or compensate for, those choices... -
I agree, but we aren't talking about your typical run of the mill "oopsie" - to do something that would get you kicked off of an MMO requires active intent - you cannot accidentally harass someone, (unless we're getting into some extremely borderline cases where someone construes a comment as being offensive)...
-
This doesn't track - you don't casually go from being a "good person" to doing something awful, especially when we're talking about an online game. If you're actively harassing someone, doxxing people, tossing around racial or ethnic epithets, etc, then you probably weren't a good person in the first place. Sure, speak up if you see someone doing something bad, but your actions should be limited to perhaps warning the offender, then reporting them to the GMs. It should never be any normal player's place to attempt to punish or otherwise blacklist others - that goes heavily into vigilante activity, and firmly places you into the wrong as well; Block, report, then move on...
-
It's a beautiful sentiment, but I have to wonder - has anyone been acting awfully, only to have someone say to them "you should be nice", then have a total realization and changed their evil ways? I mean, pretty much any "normal" person already knows this, and the rest just don't care. If someone is going to troll or harass others, it's almost a certainty that they know what they're doing is wrong, (or at the very least, against the rules)...
-
I wonder if just allowing greater extents to either end of the various sliders would totally break the game...

OK, gotcha. My concern is that it'd be pigeonholing players into some very specific forms, then. Perhaps there could be a single power that makes you appear as a particular enemy, to grant a form of stealth that they can't see through, but which gets broken/deactivated if you attempt to use any other power. Other powers in the set could emulate specific enemy abilities, but in name only, (so no permanent aesthetic change) - maybe only overlay the enemy model over yours as part of the power activation - think "Form of the Behemoth", which grants you various fire-related abilities while it is active. Another approach would be to go the Kheldian route, and have each form be a toggle that changes your appearance and grants you powers you can only use while in that form...
-
Can you elaborate upon what these forms would be - you mention "as decided by the devs", but what would you envision, here? Are you referring to various NPC models? Non-humanoid models in game?

A /dark or /storm MM can already get another pet, and a /traps one arguably gets multiple...

Frankly, I wouldn't change the sets at all; The idea is that you lock down enemies and have your pets do the dirty work for you. I think replacing the attacks from the summoning sets with armor toggles would put too much emphasis on your character - they're not meant to be in the fray. Heck, I was considering putting something like a placate power in there somewhere, so you could "bug out" if an enemy takes interest in you. Think less a squad leader, and more of a coward that takes advantage of you while you're down...

Archetype name: "Subjugator" Archetype special ability: "Subjugation" - Your summoned entities take reduced damage from and deal increased damage against, any enemy that is under any control effect. Primary: Control Secondary: Summoning Archetype Summary: Whether through charisma, coercion, or other means, you are a master at getting others to do what you want. You are able to restrict the movement and ability to act of your enemies, call upon powerful allies or minions, and have the latter take advantage of the former. I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this concept. Thanks!

Is there a way to restore my rocket launcher?
biostem replied to Redletter's topic in General Discussion
This could be the ranged equivalent of titan weapons - maybe slower animations until a "lock-on" effect kicks in, or something, with different payloads and such, (culminating in a mini-nuke)... -
I think it would vary depending upon which particular character or powerset(s) we're talking about. For instance, several of my shield defense characters could really benefit from quick recovery. Phantom army would be a lot of fun on several characters, (especially with the clone power option). Entropic aura would be very useful on a controller or defender...

I know the powers aren't interruptible... I'm saying the way they interact in this particular instance could change. It's like saying, "it'd be interesting if you could slot damage enh's into the upgrade powers to further increase those pets' damage" - "but the upgrade powers don't do that" - this is a change I'm suggesting, not a description of what the powers currently do.
-
It'd be interesting if you could slot in interrupt reduction enhancements into these powers to shorten the animations...

The "multi-aspect" IOs basically take care of this for you...

Currently, we only have the option for "The" as a prefix for our characters. Now, I know we can add stuff into a character's name, but due to the limitation on the use of punctuation, you cannot, for instance, have "Dr. D'Monic" or something similar. I would love to see some common titles, like "Mr.", "Mrs./Ms.", etc, added as options - or at least allow us to use like 3 punctuation marks/symbols in our character names, (so I could have "Captain So-and-so" as a name. Is it a technical limitation, or is there some exploit I'm overlooking? Thanks for reading!

I'd love it if there was a "back piece", which basically placed your sword, axe, mace, or rifle on your back when not in combat. Don't worry about any special animations - when not in combat, render the weapon on the character's back, and when in combat, make it invisible. Heck, I'd even just take a static back option, and we can change costumes ourselves. The same would be great for the various shield models,...
