I have a sonic/pain corruptor that tf team loves.  Soothing Aura, works good enough and occasionally i let loose with a pbaoe heal by mistake, dumbasses get a single target once that usually gets them back in line.  Other than that i am as much a dps as some poorly constructed blasters.

Got a baby dp/time corruptor.  Very different to play, got a little backlash for not have a rez and I don't quite have the whole time manipulation thing figured out, but it is fun in a group.

I wasn't a huge fan of Corruptors, but Fire/Trick Arrow is insane.  Light your own OSA and watch SCOURGE flash from one side of the screen to the other?  It never gets old.

Anything you can have, we have it.  Even got a devil in the attic.

It's unfortunate really. Although a lot of people say Vigilance is bad, defenders get another somewhat hidden inherent. i.e. scaling, and not just (de)buff numbers.

Their leadership and fighting scaling (if you take it) are some of the highest, if not the highest in game tied with other ATs. Along with higher buff scaling, a well built defender can out damage some Corruptors by forgoing def/res set bonuses and overloading damage procs. That along with having increased debuff scaling on their blast sets is a huge sting.

In my honest opinion, I feel like Corruptors should be the ones with higher debuff scaling on blasts, since they are called Corruptors lol. I'm not sure if the (de)buff scaling is universally tied to ATs and not to powersets though, so it might cause bugs

Any team that requires someone to have a resurrection power is a bad team.

Higher base damage means that red inspirations do more.  So it's easier to chew a few and burn down an EB.  So in a lot of situations Corruptors are just more fun.  Hell I recently re-rolled a mid 20s Defender into a Corruptor because I wanted my damage and Scourge.

This is another good point.  Corrupters definitely tend to be better EB/AV killers.  Load up on reds and get that AV down to under 50% and then scourge starts to take over to help finish it off even if you don't have a lot of -regen powers.

If I recall correctly, at least early in the live version,  each AT had its own version of the different power-sets.

A change to the Blaster Dark blast set had no effect on the Defender (or Corruptor) Dark Blast set.

Made balancing things much more difficult for the Devs at the time...and probably still makes it difficult for the Devs today.

Easy.  Play a Blaster.  Marvel at your unrivaled squishiness and mountainous XP debt.  Then play a Defender.  Marvel at your incidental damage and glacial leveling rate.

Then roll a Corruptor and realize that, while far from being entirely self-sufficient, it mashes enough strengths of both the classes together that it mitigates a large part of the specialist pain of each.

Have fun.

Late to the party, haven't been poking around the forums much over the holiday, but since the last post was yesterday it's not really a necro...

I've felt that way ever since I started playing (early in Issue 7), but back then you played what was available on that side and pre-IOs and Vigilance 2.0 there was absolutely no question which did more damage (using the same sets, which they didn't all have for each) for all but the most extreme corner cases. I'm also still annoyed (mildly, but that's about as upset as I get at anything in this game) that Cold Domination was nerfed for Corruptors because it got ported over to Defenders and someone decided Heat Loss with Defender modifiers was too good.

And yet, it doesn't happen often enough to justify expecting someone else to waste their power pick because someone is too lazy/ignorant to pick up a P2W self-rez power and/or use an inspiration every once in a while. You can nitpick on whether or no that falls into the category of "requiring a resurrection power" or not since I'm saying to get one for yourself instead of expecting someone else to do it, but I'm not wasting my time on a team that expects me to pick up any single-target rez-other. Because that is a bad team that obviously expects to either a) behave stupidly and expect to be bailed out; or b) expects others to cater to them without recognizing that they could try and help themselves through even the minimalist of intelligent decisions.

I probably would expect a Dark to pick up Howling Twilight, though that's more for everything else it does instead of the rez.

Every time I think "Ooh I'm going to make a Corruptor today" I end up with a Defender instead. I can't resist its siren call. I'll look through powers and go "Ooh, this 20% Defense Debuff could be 25% instead! This 11.25% resist aura could be 15%! All I have to do is not pick Corruptor..."
And then boom, suddenly it turns out that I still don't have a Corruptor.

Some of you out there love Corruptors, right? Tell me about how awesome they are!
(preferably how awesome they are without incarnate stuff or fully tricked out with the best sets)

(Bolded and highlighted for emphasis)

I don't like my Corruptor...

I don't like my main Corruptor...

I don't like my many main Corruptors because they are Incarnates (only 2 are, maybe 3...) and tricked out with the best sets. I like them... each for their own reason. The one I have the most fun with (Water Blast/Poison) is because it's creepy as hell and throws out enough debuffs that it can draw aggro from the tank. I call it my de-buffet.

You're welcome to pick them, and more power to you that you like them: I have had several characters that took single target rezzes - although currently the only one is a level 50 Pain Domination Defender who jokes about letting people die so I can get the buff - but that is each person's choice to do so, and someone else shouldn't dictate that choice for you or give you crap about taking situationally useful, "flavor" powers.

A team that will give you crap about not taking one is still a bad team, though.

Any team which gives you backlash for not having a power which doesn't actually exist in the set (Time doesn't have a rez) is baffling.

P2W Rezzes are cheap anyway, I'll tend to get them when I'm stocking up on other P2W things like jetpacks and Daggers. And then I tend to forget until someone has made multiple trips to the hospital (I do the same with TT).

I had the same issue with Corruptors for a while. I tried a Water/Rad, which was fine. But then replaced with a Water/Temporal Blaster instead. Wanted a Time but went Time/Sonic Defender for the better -Resist and buff stats.

Finally stuck with a DP/Kin Corruptor and they're now one of my current favourite chars (although if you wanted to go pure effectiveness Fire/Kin would probably be much better thanks to the animation times).

The way to convince yourself to make (and play) a Corruptor is easy.

Step 1 : Buy a goldfish.

Step 2 : create a villain to kidnap the goldfish.

Step c : Have said villain threaten to feed the goldfish to their cat if you don't create and play a corruptor.

I have almost the opposite problem.  I have a hard time making a defender anymore, mostly because I often solo on my characters, so I want them to be able to solo.  I can do it with a Defender, but it's soooo much easier with a Corruptor.  When I do make a Defender instead of a Corruptor, it's usually because I want access to certain powers at earlier levels (e.g. Kinetics).

Yep.  I have exactly one Defender, and the sole reason for that Defender is to be able to run the Barracuda SF if necessary.  Other than that, I see no reason to play a Defender over a Corruptor.  YMMV.

OK, so, I get it that when CoV hit, if you wanted to play a red-side defender you had to roll a corrupter. And that's fine. At the time, I liked that the red-side version was a little more offense and a bit less defense, That works with the whole "villain" thing. Now, however, things are different. First we got "going rogue" and now we can just start anything blue-side and so the balance might need to change a bit.

My suggestion, rebalence all the defender and corrupter sets so that defenders get better buff numbers and corrupters get better debuff numbers. That way the only question is "do I want to help my team stay alive longer, or help the enemies die faster?" If you want to help the team live, make a defender. If you want to help the enemies die, make a corrupter.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've always felt like making a defender that had no buff powers was wrong, but the numbers are just so much better for them that I have a hard time making them as corrupters. This rebalance would help create a specific role for both defenders and corrupters (buffers vs debuffers) instead of what we have now which seems to be "defenders are better, except for these few combos that work better for corrupters." What do you guys think?
