Forager Posted September 28 Posted September 28 How much of your teammates activity are you aware of? Does it depend on your character? Do you only notice when they mess something up or do you also notice when they do something well? I would guess that the average player is not paying very much attention to what others are doing. 1 1
MoonSheep Posted September 28 Posted September 28 (edited) depends what i’m doing - if it’s an MO or a declared speed run i’ll be monitoring the map to make sure things are orderly, as i feel people would expect a level of instruction from the team lead if it’s a PuG i do my best to ignore what everyone is doing so i don’t get annoyed that the kin defender is spending the entire TF using their T1/T2 blast powers rather than helping people out with SB Edited September 29 by MoonSheep 1 If you're not dying you're not living
Snarky Posted September 28 Posted September 28 I keep a map up 99% time. I casually track team. I usually am on a Blaster and looking to be near the front of the group for best AoE placement. Sometimes I am way ahead if I have classified the team as "casuals" and there are obvious goals of juicy targets. When I game with Justice Superteamers twice a week it is different. They run nearly everything at +2 to +4 kill alls. We stay together to buff/maximize dps/be efficient. 3
Owl Girl Posted September 28 Posted September 28 i keep my map open and pay careful attention to Who is doing what, and i am always taking note of Who follows instructions, Who is repeatedly dying, Who is roleplaying, and I make heavy use of notes in and out of game. i also track what other teams are doing! i use multiple accounts and the character Friend list (doesn't need permission!) and /Whoall to track other people's teams. your business is my business 😃 1 1 1 g_d's lil' monster ❤️
merrypessimist Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Barely. I watch their resource bars on the team menu to see if they're getting themselves killed, but otherwise I don't particularly care. If they grab a piece of action, it's their own obligation to solve it. 1
Clave Dark 5 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 No! I am clearly only here for my own gratification, I don't even know why I team! This is not any ammner of a collaborative or social game, who gave you that wachadoodle idea?! Put them on ignore, right now! Yes I do pay attention to the team I'm on. I currently have an Emp I'm leveling and why would you run one of those and not pay attention ha ha I also generally run squishies and find min/maxing the hell out them (and playing such impenetrable cheats) flat-out boring, so I do have to pay attention in case others around me start falling, or even gasp need some help; even a blaster can help a failing player by trying to clear the heat off them. I've also taken to buying those ten-shot rezz powers from the P2W because I always seem to end up using them. I do understand this isn't a common playstyle anymore. 1 1 Tim "Black Scorpion" Sweeney: Matt (Posi) used to say that players would find the shortest path to the rewards even if it was a completely terrible play experience that would push them away from the game... ╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗ Clave's Sure-Fire Secrets to Enjoying City Of Heroes Ignore those farming chores, skip your market homework, play any power sets that you want, and ignore anyone who says otherwise. Ukase Posted September 29 Posted September 29 How much I pay attention depends on my role. If I'm DPS, I tend to look mainly at what the de-facto aggro management characters are doing. Sometimes, on speedy runs, the only thing I'm looking at is the map until I get where I'm going, and then the target. If I'm on your traditional kill what's in the way, I will keep the corner of my eye on the team list to see if someone is taking more aggro than they should and try to assist by targeting through them instead of just tabbing to the next target. If I'm the tank, I'm mainly watching the hitpoints of everyone to see if I need to be taunting more. If I'm on a character with buffs, I try to do this before the action, covering as many folks as I can. But, I'm not going to chase anyone around a corner. If I'm on a dom - which is rare, I might look for the one with buffs in case I need them. And call me strange if you must, but when I'm teamed with an emp, I keep the team buffs display up so I can see who's getting the AB and Fort love. I know AB in particular doesn't recharge super fast, so I like to see who they give it to. I got in the habit of doing that because an emp/elec defender was my first 50 on retail. Took me about 540 hours, lol. And I wasn't a very good one. Great at heal other...but beyond that, fairly useless. So - don't panic - if I play one, I play it better than I used to. But I still like to see how much better/different other emps play when I'm teamed with one. And, if I'm on a league and not the lead, the only thing I'm doing besides mashing buttons is trying to keep an eye on the chat to see if I need to do something different. But, if you're asking if I notice when a blaster uses a blast...maybe if I'm looking in that direction. I don't think anything of it. Do I notice when dark defenders debuff? Nope. Do I notice Tar Patch? Yeah. Do I think, "My teammate cast tar patch!". Nope. I tend to take all those things for granted. I'm just trying to complete the mission objectives and observing these things is done just as a matter of course; not really going out of my way to watch. 2
cranebump Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I pay attention. Especially if, as usual, I’m running a support or ranged toon. I have done a TON of AE work, both long form and single arc. Just search the AE mish list for my sig @cranebump. For more information on my stories, head to the AE forum sub-heading and look for “Crane’s World.” Support your AE authors! We ARE the new content.

Neiska Posted September 29 Posted September 29 It depends. If I'm the leader or tank, I usually keep one eye on the map and general party location. If I'm a support, I stick close to the tank or squishys. If there's a "gotta go fast" person on the team whose skipping everything running straight to the glowie map after map, I don't bother. And if its egregious, I'll quietly put them on my "don't team with" list.
Gravitus Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Depends. 90% of the game is easy enough to where the team is gonna win no matter what. So I generally don’t pay it any mind. Now if I was going for a master badge of some stripe that’s when I tend to pay attention to everything .
Erratic1 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I always pay some attention, but I pay more attention when playing a buff/heal AT.
Lusiphur Malache Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Whole lot of depends, if I'm playing a support I zoom out the camera and try to keep everything in my field of view plus glance to see if there is a hp drop from anyone. Aggro management, I try to keep everything close to me so I don't have to see if anyone else is not doing their job or for dps doing it too well. Melee and ranged dps, nope I'm paying attention to my target and not much else.
Triumphant Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Not much. I'm a terrible multi-tasker and can only reliable focus on one thing at a time. I do try to keep an eye on teammates health bars in the team window, so I can fire off a timely rebirth power, when healing is needed. I play DPS characters pretty much exclusively, so I'm mostly just focused on crushing the mobs.
Oubliette_Red Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Like most of the others have posted here, I keep my map open all the time. Most of the the time our group stays in close proximity, I tend to play support so keeping track of my teammates is a given, expect for the one person that may have a tendency to run off ahead/turn right when the rest of the team turned left/jumped ahead to the next mob and bites off more they can chew, when they face plant I tend to laugh, if they ask why I didn't heal them I laugh harder. I follow the tank/aggro magnet, not the soloist on the team and learned way back in Legacy that splitting up my support between players that can be rooms away is ineffective. 1 Dislike certain sounds? Silence/Modify specific sounds. Looking for modified whole powerset sfx? Check out Michiyo's modder or Solerverse's thread. Got a punny character? You should share it.
Water Posted September 29 Posted September 29 When playing support I'm usually behind the peloton to observe where best to, well, support. On attack like blaster then I like to be at the edge of the fray regularly looking back to our squishies in case they are getting overwhelmed. As for other players, in my experience most are rushing past the optionals to FINISH FIRST SO THEY CAN SAY FIRST rather than enjoying the game and being a team player. I've played with Snarky and can confirm his said play styles.
UltraAlt Posted September 29 Posted September 29 13 hours ago, Forager said: How much of your teammates activity are you aware of? Some and sometimes more. Sometimes I'm on a team and I have to focus on keeping a key character or characters alive to help the team and I'm fairy focused on that. even when that is going on, I usually catch what at least a couple of the other players are doing, especially the ones that end up falling alot due to their own wreckless behavior or drawdown too much agro on the entire team. 13 hours ago, Forager said: Does it depend on your character? Yes. More the archetype of my character than the character conception ... most of the time. 13 hours ago, Forager said: Do you only notice when they mess something up or do you also notice when they do something well? No. My main goal is to try to see what a team is doing and do what I can to help it succeed based on what my character can do and/or get away with within the current group dynamics. It tends to be when a character is doing thing extremely well, it is because they are a level 50 on the team (I mostly play the game and not the end-game) and have well outleveled the content. 13 hours ago, Forager said: I would guess that the average player is not paying very much attention to what others are doing. Sure seems that way with an increasing percentage if they are playing a melee character and/or a level 50. You know, I hear that there are people that play with the whole hud clear. Seems odd to me. I alway have the map open, watch health bars as much as I can. If I see someone taking a hit, I'll try to attack their target to try to help them finish off whatever it is and/or heal them/buff them, debuff or hold their target, etc. It is all part of that figuring out what the team needs and try to fill in those gaps regardless of what archetype I'm playing. 1 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
Scarlet Shocker Posted September 29 Posted September 29 a lot depends on the scenario. If it's a single team I'm very aware, making sure I'm trying to be in the right place and getting my attacks off at the best time to add value to the overall effort. If I'm on something like an MSR, that's more of a buttonmash Leagues I'll probably pay attention to the league leader rather than my team. There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.
Bigwheela Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Half the time its hard enough keeping track of my ninjas running around but i try to keep and eye on the rest of the team even if it is just to give em a rez or a quick heal. Most of the time i just push through the fight and when cleared fix who needs fixing. i let my teams fight what ever fight they pick but i will jump in if its not going well. Its best to just trust that your team knows what its doing.

High_Beam Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I always pay attention to one degree or another based on the character I am playing and the team I am on, especially if support. With my Blasters I generally have to do the least amount of attention keeping, melee types are kind of locked except when I see team mates who have oopsed. I also have to be super attentive and have map up for Aeon and a couple of others that are run skipped so fast that I am nearly dizzy (and I don't mean Flores) 2 Girls of Nukem High - Excelsior - Tempus Fabulous, Flattery, Jennifer Chilly, Betty Beatdown, Totally Cali, Two Gun Trixie Babes of War - Excelsior - High Beam (Yay), Di Di Guns, Runeslinger, Munitions Mistress, Tideway, Hard Melody, Blue Aria Many alts and lots of fun. Thank you Name Release For letting me get my OG main back!
Doomguide2005 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Maps open and like just about everyone it depends a bit on which character I'm playing. But even my scrapper is keeping eyes on everyone behind her often via a combo of minimap 'triangles' (position and color) and the team window. My empaths are typically glued to the team window and sort of work backwards to how my scrapper watches things.
Teklord Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Map open, tracking where the bulk of the team is. I also often teleport to players when have difficultly navigating maps and obstructions. I also love porting in to a player at low health and helping them out.
Andreah Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I play a support kinetic defender. I watch my team like a hawk. I also keep my keypad macro'd to select party members by team window position so I can hot-key teleport to them.
