Pylon Damage Thread

Ya I use it in regular play, I'm just iffy on the pylon part. I know there was a big discussion a long time ago about the patron pets in builds that didn't have the recharge to keep it up all the time, seems similar. Although in a way you could make the argument for fiery embrace I guess... think I will keep use it going forward. I still can't get to your 1:09 though. That 1:12 was after many, many tests.

Eh, if I for some insane reason went with a patron pet and the pylon didn't kill it, I'd use it.

 

People overthink these things. There's a difference between a build choice that requires investment, and activating hybrid/lore, which can be thrown on top of anything, and annihilating the pylon in twenty seconds.

 

And yeah, I was very close to getting it on video last night before a miss streak, after like five pylon kills. 😞

Just mention what you actually do and no one's going to have any issues.

 

Spiderlings freaking annihilate pylons, so when your all ranged Electric Blast build is at 1:25, people need to know that or they'll just think you're lying.

😮 My elec/ice corr pulled a 1:30 once, but that was with a Mistress from Soul Mastery... maybe I should switch to mace.

The real trick is staying ranged, preferably in the air.  The spiderlings never take damage that way.

 

It's purely pylon chicanery though.  No actual application in real play.

Tried a variation of this with my Kat/Rad.  Why didn't you guys tell me that Scrapper Fireball has a 1s activation time? 🤣

 

Not fair to compare this toon to its previous, incomplete but very durable incarnation.

 

Not quite enough recharge to maintain the 3pc chain consistently, but the times got much quicker once I got down a decent filling pattern with RT, Proc'd Fireball, and occasionally GC.

 

Start with MA, fire it on cool-down.  With/Without Meltdown times overlapped enough that the variation is probably my crap button discipline, so I stopped using it after the first few runs.

 

Fastest run 2:30, slowest 2:55, seemed to smooth out in the low 2:40s.

 

T4s: Musc Core, Degen -HP, Ageless Radial (might go Core on live), Assault Core slotted but not clicked. 

 

EvM has to be turned off about 3/4 of the way through the run or blue bar becomes a problem.

 

For comparison, this is probably around 2x as quick as the best times with my Psi/SD built for extreme durability.

 

Build as slotted, I was going to use Provocations in MA, until I saw the price and that there was only one on market when I looked.  But when I copied to beta I forgot to swap them in. Concessions for durability could be dropped for more recharge by changing slotting on GC and FB, maybe elsewhere. Powers order in Mids is a bit messy. 😛

I think you could get that time down a good bit with just a few adjustments.  Achilles and fury uptime is way more consistent if you can get them into GD/SD instead of the radiation powers.  You might just want them in AoE though.  Also think putting the +crit ATO proc in GD and opening with it is the way to go.  I tried testing opening with SD first (and crit proc slotted there)and it was a DPS loss.  The proc chance is similar on them.  I'm guessing it tested better because GD always has a higher crit chance and doesn't benefit as much from the crit boost.

 

I need to change my build back to gambler's cut as well because there's definitely times I need to fill a gap with FF procs.  I might try to work in proc'd out fireball since that would do nicely.

@InvaderStych I'm gonna piggy back off what @Pzn mentioned. Well, agree mostly. I've got a Kat/Inv that averages 2:16, and RAD is definitely better at squeaking out damage if that's what you want. This character does it with a different build (zapp/ball lightning, no melt armor). So, it can definitely be done. I've honestly thought of swapping to RoF/Fireball/MA on that dude since I'm not exactly playing Kat for AOE anyways.

 

Tried RoF. Couldn't get in to it. Went back to Zapp/BL.

 

Got bored. Looked at the build. Now it's averaging 1:53. Did a run with Assault Core (+DMG) turned on and did 1:33

Yeah, I should give that a try.  Moving the Achilles would give me back a slot (could drop an LotG in evasive, among other options), and it does seem that starting with GD lines up the recharge times of the attacks more smoothly. I hadn't considered the higher crit chance on GD at all; over time that makes tons of sense.

I'm not 100% sold on slotting it like that, but I sure do enjoy using it. 😛 I don't know the exact proc rate but it seems decent enough; whoever posted the "watch their dmg in mids as recharge changes" suggestion in another thread made guesstimating these things close enough for my purposes. 🙂 It's that 1s cast time that does the trick for me though.  Why did I not know about that sooner? 😛

That's how I feel about a lot of things. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And it was definitely me, the player, that just got better with the set. I'm just saying it's possible if you really want to. And it isn't like going under 2m is the norm. That's an outlier. I was getting around 3m when I first started playing the set and that's not bad.

MA/NIN/Zapp Scrapper

 

1:48 Average so far.  EC-SK-CAK-Snipe-EC-SC-CAK-SC-EC-SC-CAK-SC ATO2 in EC. No clue if this is the best chain or use of ATO2. I'll do a few runs with ATO2 in CAK or something. My thought process is that if the ATO2 proc goes off in EC I get an extra 86% (50+33+3) chance to crit with my next SK and CAK and the duration of the ATO2 (50%) carries to the Snipe.

 

This time will definitely go down with some practice. MA is the last melee set I haven't played, so I've played them all now. I couldn't decide between KICKIN' RAD (MA/RAD) and this.

Changed a few things on my Fortunata. I changed the interface, alpha and Hybrid. I also added a few procs but the build is still very defensive.

 

Fortunata T4 Musc Radial P, T4 Degen Core, T4 Assault Radial (not sure if core or radial is best on a fortunata) Hybrid on and No pets.

 

2 minutes 19 seconds.  Average is probably around 2.25. quite consistent in it's times. Not the best but not bad for a build with over 60% defence.

 

It could go to 2 mins or below if built more aggressively i think. I keep getting like 2-3 seconds short of of downing the pylon but it regens just before, adding more time. If i can shave that 2-3 seconds off i think it will be more like 2.05 or thereabouts.

 

Just shows how adding a few procs and changing a few things and incarnates can make a big difference to times.

I run Fireball on my EM/Rad scrap because there's something ineffably awesome about basically the near-guaranteed ATO crit chance from TF followed by critting Fireball on all the mobs. It's not the best for Pylons probably but it is really satisfying in general game play. BU-TF-Fireball-RT-GZ ... aoe fun on otherwise single-target EM.

Only extrapolating from what I have (shield/nrg and sr/claws tanks,) I'd bet somewhere around the 4 min mark... but that's pretty much a WAG.

 

Edit: Just got a 3:20 on my very unoptimized nrg/sr brute using ET-Long, TF, ET-Short, BS, PAUSE, repeat but also not a procmonster build. Really should build that nrg/shield scrapper some day.

I enjoy my EM/SD scrapper way more than the EM/BIO I have. And it's wayyyyy less squish. Damage difference isn't really noticeable, but pylon kills are a solid 40s of difference. SD is just really beastly.

I'd want to do runs with and without burnout, like with hybrid.  Since it's not something you'll always have up.  I use temp powers like +rech from base buff sometimes but I always mention if it was required.  There's no rules really besides what you set for yourself.
