If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

I agree with OP actually, but the idea of a superhero having to get out his wallet and pay cash/debit card for stuff seems hokey as well. I think they should base your net worth on badges. Think about it. You see a 4 star General with a uniform full of medals, you know he's done some shit. CoH could be similar. I mean, when you do especially heroic things, you get a badge. Different badges could represent lines of credit, let's say. Just a thought.

Also, badges can't be just passed off to an alt like INF can, so there's that aspect as well.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but here we go.

Influence isn’t just some pile of Paragon Pesos you can slide across the table like you’re tipping the bartender at Pocket D. Influence is earned. It’s the lifeblood of your heroic reputation — the nod of respect from the shopkeep when you stroll in wearing a cape still smoldering from yesterday’s Hami raid.

When you “buy” an enhancement from a vendor, you’re not really buying it. You think the guy at Cooke’s Electronics is swiping your debit card? Please. He’s giving it to you because your influence says you deserve it. Just like a diner might comp a police officer’s meal — except instead of free coffee, it’s a level 35 SO that lets you melt Clockwork like butter.

Influence is personal. You have to keep earning it with good deeds, daring rescues, and the occasional giant monster smackdown. Stop doing the work, and your influence fades. Hit zero, and you’ve got no stroke, no pull — Serge at Icon won’t even let you try on that new cape. “Sorry, champ, we save the good stuff for the people actually saving lives.”

Now imagine you could trade influence. That’s like your sidekick‑wannabe walking into Wentworth’s, pointing at a bin of D‑Sync Provocation IOs, and saying, “Don’t worry, I know Super Bob. Load me up.” You try walking out that door and see how fast the PPD drones drop from the sky to zap you for shoplifting.

Influence trading doesn’t make sense in lore, and it never has. You can’t hand someone your reputation. You can’t say, “Here, take half of my street cred.” That’s not how trust works in Paragon City… or anywhere else.

So let’s keep it pure. Let’s keep it earned. And if you want more influence? Do what every real hero does: get out there, save some lives, punch some Freakshow in the face, and let your legend grow.

Or — you know — work that auction house like an ebil marketeer.

If it worked the way you say it does - as reputation instead of currency….why does it go down?

Shouldnt it only go down if you do something bad, not whenever you “buy” something?

So how does the store owner pay rent/mortgage/taxes if he just gives away all his stock because Super Guy & Friends saved that office building last week? Maybe if it were a rare occurrence they might be feeling grateful and give you goodies based on your rep but you can't throw a rock in Paragon without hitting a superhero/villian who just cleared out a dangerous cave, it would be a never-ending giveaway. I'd imagine giving everything away with no exchange of currency would quickly bankrupt the store regardless of how impressive the supers feats may have been.

How would the stores replace their stock? Do the enhancement wholesalers also accept Super Guys rep as payment? How are the workers making the enhancements being paid? Still Super Guys rep? How do those workers pay their rent? They may not even live in Paragon or have never heard of Super Guy, why would Super Guys rep count for anything at that point?

I think this would lead to the greatest depression Paragon City and the Rouge Isles have even seen and would kickstart the total collapse of modern civilization. For these reasons, I'm out.

There was a time when I agreed with this position. Even now, I tend to give a measure of respect to players with a badge count over 500. Yet, my anecdotal experience contradicts with my own premise. It's tough for me to admit I'm wrong, but in this context, I clearly was.

On paper, it looks like a good idea. But even in the Army, you recognize pretty quickly that most officers don't have a damn clue how to win a war. They just know there are too many dandelions in the courtyard, so they pull a mechanic off his current job of maintaining the armored vehicles to pull dandelions.

Is getting paid in influence like getting paid in exposure? If so, that shit doesn't pay the bills and Sergei knows enough supers to send some around for "collections".

Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute

Alts galore. So...soooo many alts.

Remember when influence and infamy were separate?   That didn't even last.

Things are just traded around in I units.   Think of them as some crypto currency.  (I mean, they are generated via computer operations....)

I suppose we could change the title to pounds, or dollars, or Triganic Pu  or gold, but it seems gauche to have heroes working for cash. And villains are rolling in cash. They rob banks like the rest of us pop to Starbucks. Most level 50 villains make Scrooge McDuck look poor.

Triganic Pu sounds like what happens after BaBs eats at Taco Bell….

There are 8 ningi's to one pu. But as a ningi is a triangular coin 100 miles along each edge nobody has ever made enough to earn one pu. Nobody uses Ningi's as the banks refuse to deal in piddling small change

There is nothing wrong with the currency system in the game.

And even supposing it could be improved upon, it's lowest of the lowest low low priority. after literally everything else.
