evidently the launcher was in there too.  now my launch icon failed....

No, I can assure you, the only thing in your data directory was Vidiots, the launcher doesn't run from there.  If your game isn't launching after doing anything to the data directory something is very wrong.  You didn't modify the "C:\Games\Homecoming", directory just the "data" directory inside it right?

i did this....

ust totally rename or remove the data directory in C:\Games\Homecoming, the only thing in there is a Vidiotmaps install.

well ... remove the data directory C:\Games\Homecoming   this....

I said to remove or rename the data directory:

Not the entire Homecoming directory.  Did you delete JUST "data", or, the entire Homecoming directory?

yes.  you did.  but...  you are dealing with a bloodthirsty maniac with attention span issues.   all fixed now and bicentennial badges showing up.  testing sirens/cim now.

YES  i have working city maps now.  thank you!  great holiday gift!

Its funny. But it is also not funny.  I know it is an older game with limited QOL features.  Still…

Atlas Park recently lost all its loc badges and plaques in my game.  Michiyo helped me get the modder to fix that. Thanks.

Siren’s Call has been rotated 90 degrees for years.  Cimerora still has the map pre “major change”.  None of my maps except AP show the new plaques that you need to collect 19? of.  So none of my toons have the badge.  I have actually gotten used to Sirens call and navigate based on transposing it in my head.   It gets old though.

That screams you have had cruft in your install, especially not having the changes to Siren's Call and Cimerora.  If you've installed no other mod manually besides older VidiotMaps:

  • Clear out <City Install Root>/data/
    • If you're not sure, replay with what you've found and I'll let you know.
    • Legitimate stuff in data/ are manual installed mods including:
      • customwindows/  The custom.window files for that slightly buggy way to handle Macros.
      • fonts/  Replacement font files.
      • sound/ogg/  Replacement sound files in a tree structure.
      • texts/<Client language>/menus/  Manually installed Popmenu files.
      • texture_library/GUI/Cursors/  Replacement cursor files.
  • Check that <City Install Root>/assets/mods/ contains only mod files you've install via City Modder.

I've been very careful and have a number of manual mods in data/, along with a manual install of VidiotMaps in assets/mods/, but don't have any issues.

That's why I surreptitiously put "open other end" on both ends of your coffin lid...

Gonna cut you some slack there. Dealing with file structures and such..it's just not intuitive if you haven't done it more than a few times. And credit to those who painstakingly tried to get you through the process (@michiyo). It can be a challenge trying to explain things when folks typically have accumulated all kinds of stuff in all kinds of places. My own installation of HC:CoH is a mess. The additional installations of a few other flavors of CoH don't make it any easier.

Some day in the future, probably when I upgrade my mother board and CPU to adapt to Windows 11 or 12, or whatever the version will be up by the time I have to abandon Win 10, I might endeavor to do fresh installs of everything. Certainly not any time soon!

It’s very easy to do a fresh install. The only issue is saving the files that you want to save… screenshots, window, option, and keybind settings, builds, possibly logs.

Homecoming has actually made that a lot easier than in previous installs by separating and laying out the data folders that players would like to keep. Hmmmm.  Maybe that would be a good page to write up at the wiki… hasn’t thought of that before. 🙂

The entire game, plus launcher, can be installed to an external drive.  I have it on a USB-C 1TB SSD.

And Windows allows folder redirects.  I've pointed my Documents, Downloads, Pictures and Videos folders to the same SSD.

I ain't losin' nothin' now... unless my cabin is sucked into another universe.  Or @Snarky tries to perform basic file operations on my laptop... that would probably be more catastrophic.
