Pre-ED is useful, but perhaps could use a short tooltip. I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't know it stood for "enhancement diversification" (though I've heard of the diminishing returns) and I think I saw "ED" used for "endurance drain" elsewhere.

This name was a perhaps understandable but still pretty ludicrous effort on the part of the Cryptic devs to sell the introduction of diminishing returns to a playerbase the devs knew would react badly to it. The name and the announcement that it came with, sent to players in the I6/CoV Beta, was meant to suggest that this was a good thing for them, as now they could slot less damage and more of other things, thus "diversifying" their enhancement. (Prior to the introduction of ED, it was common to slot 1 accuracy and 5 damage SOs, and some builds just went straight to 6 damage SOs.)

While "ED" certainly makes sense for "endurance drain", I've never heard anyone use that acronym for it consistently. The history behind "ED" meaning "enhancement diversification" probably has something to do with that.

A release fix has been pushed out for 2.6.0.7 which fixes the semi-dynamic inherent grid for Masterminds. Please re-download 2.6.0.7 if you have already updated.

2.6.0.7 *FINAL* - Removes the 6 column layout, and adds back in 2, 3, and 4 column layouts.

Since I posted it in the Homecoming discord early this morning, I figured I should also let it be known here. I hope to have the next release finished today or tomorrow which removes the 6 column layout and goes back to a 2, 3, and 4 column layout. The inherent layout will now be semi-dynamic, meaning certain powers should shift their positions based upon what powers you take and what layout you are in.

After I push out this release I will no longer be working on the current rendition of Mids' Reborn, with the occasional exception of minor database updates.

Allow me to thank you for putting all the work you have put into the project. Planning builds not only makes the game itself more enjoyable but is a bit of a game in of itself.

Thank you.

Thank you very much for all the hard work in maintaining this platform!! Build design meta-game is a real joy. I won’t go into the amount of time I’ve appropriated from my employer created builds over the Interregnum.

I searched but didn’t find a post on this topic (so apologies if I missed it). “Demons” are not selectable pets in the Incarnate Lore choices. Is this a possible addition? Admittedly, it’s a niche choice I’m sure.

I'm having an issue. When I try opening other people's builds in the latest update and my own previous work, it appears to not open them properly if at all and acts as if my mids builds do not exist when I searching for them?

What version were those builds made in?  Mids' Reborn 2.6.0.3 and higher is a bit incompatible with earlier build files.

I ran the most recent update which caused issues so I uninstalled/reinstalled Mids.  Kept getting errors when trying to open after installing.  What I did to remedy the error is to right-click the installer package (MRB_Setup.msi) and choose Properties.  Select the Unblock checkbox at bottom/apply/ok.  Then installed.  Running fine now.  Just sharing in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

Bug summary:  The Force of Will pool seems to be different in Mids, compared to Pines.  This results in Mids loading the wrong powers into slots if the build was created in Pines, and vise-versa.

Details:  I created a build in Pines 2.23 using the Force of Will pool.  I selected Mighty Leap at level 24, Project Will at 30, and Unleash Potential at 32.  I found out Mids Reborn exists and tried using it to open my build.  It decided I had Project Will at 24, Mighty Leap at 30, and Wall of Force at 32.

Not a bug, Mids Reborn is not Pines. Never was. There are quite a few behind the scenes differences between them. Database Indexes being one of them.

If software doesn't behave as expected, that is the very definition of a bug.  If you have no plans to make Mids fully compatible with builds created in Pines, that is a different story and I understand.

There is no expectation that Mids Reborn would open up a Pines build, so it is the very definition of not a bug. This is the same as if you were to open up a Google Doc into Microsoft Office, they are not fully compatible. Perhaps some things will be correct, but some stuff will be broken.

You will need to rebuild the character in Mids Reborn for functionality to work correctly.

There are many reasons one would expect the two to be compatible.

  1. Both use the same file name extension.
  2. Builds made in Pines generally open without issues in Mids.  I've only opened about 25 builds from my files made with Pines, and this is the first build in my library that had an issue.
  3. The paste code header from Pines says "Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build"
  4. There is no error message or warning when opening an "incompatible" Pines file using Mids.

There are a few options for the developers here.

  1. Do nothing.  Let people be confused if they open a build shared by someone who used Pines when it ends up not working right.
  2. Make an error message pop up if the build wasn't made with the latest version of Mids.  I don't know how the paste code or save file is encoded, but it would only make sense to have a version flag in it for error checking and parsing.
  3. Change the name of Mids to something else entirely and make it use a completely different file extension to reduce the potential for confusion from 3. above.
  4. Get Pines to stop outputting paste code headers with "Mids" in the text.
  5. Make Mids compatible with Pines builds.

Incorrect. If software doesn't work as INTENDED (by the developer) that is a bug.
If the software doesn't do what the end user expects the software to do that is totally different.

It's a silly debate.  The developer @crytilishas said he is done developing the application.  It's rather irrelevant what the definition of this or that is, or the possible solutions.  I for one applaud the work he has done, and completely understand his wish to no longer continue work on an application that brings him no reward other than our appreciation and his own personal self-satisfaction.

I agree.  This is the right definition

Clearly, there is an expectation, or the user wouldn't have posted.  However, I think your analogy stands.  Somethings work the way you hope, somethings don't.

Yeah, I mean most see the linear progression of the app and would rather expect things to continue to be compatible from a previous file standpoint. Perhaps even I missed a memo, but I wouldn't have expected my old builds to no longer work properly in the current iteration as that would imply the powers, enh, etc would no longer exist from a logic standpoint. Going in Reverse would be understandable in the same way that you can't take a USB-C plug and expect to put it into a DB port expecting to move data.

Related, side note...as rebuilding said builds would be annoying, can we view the old build files in a readable fashion, thus allowing manual recreation within the new versions? I don't "think" I'll have issues, but I'm not sure what version they were last saved in. That and I haven't tried manually reading the files in a while.

Unless it's a Bethesda game, then it's a "feature". ;)

Just wanted to clarify a few things.

  • Some renditions of Mids, such as Pines and possibly the original, had several duplicated indexes. Mids itself relies on indexes to tell it which power is what. It wasn't until Mids Reborn 2.6.0.3 that the index issue was fixed, this however would make certain powers no longer viable in a build as their index would have most likely changed.
  • The different indexes are what make certain builds from other renditions no longer work, this was stated in the 2.6.0.3 update. Those builds would either have to have the powers removed and re-added or in some cases the build itself rebuilt in 2.6.0.3 and later.
  • Force of Will was removed from Mids Reborn as were the other pools that at the time were non-existent on Homecoming servers. It wasn't until Homecoming recently added it into the game that it was re-added to Mids Reborn.
  • The Mids Reborn rendition of Mids is built upon data from Homecoming, it is made exclusively for it.

"A software bug is an error, flaw, failure or fault in a computer program or system that causes it to produce an incorrect or unexpected result, or to behave in unintended ways."

It is an unexpected result, regardless of who experienced it.  The issue I reported is a bug, according to the most widely-accepted definition of the term.

I don't expect it to be fixed; I expect this issue to crop up from time to time if the game lasts long enough.  People will post builds and others using a different program (due to not knowing about both or playing on a different server cluster) will complain they can't open the build properly.  Maybe they will figure it out, or maybe they won't.  It seems like it will cause some headache for others when the simplest solution might be an error message warning them the build was not made with Mids and may not load properly.

Unfortunately you are reading that wrong.
If the software was never meant to do something then no matter how much I may disagree with it it wont do it and that is not a bug.
I want my car to fly. It doesnt fly. The car designer/builder never stated that it would fly and didnt design/build it to fly. That is not an issue/error/problem with the car but with my expectations.
You could call it a design limitation but its still not a bug.

There is nothing wrong with wanting software to do more than it was designed to do. But that is a New Feature Request or Enhancement Request not a bug to be fixed.
