Stop telling him how sorry you are for his experience. You are the reason people act like he does by giving him what he wants despite him clearly being ridiculous. You are not being nice you only create problems.

I do agree, it is far more logical to help him understand better and how to better create a team rather than validate. Validating is like giving a man a fish so he can eat for a day...educating them is like teaching a man to fish so that he can eat for life. Of course, you could also poison the fish and they will eat for life too, but...I don't suggest that, lol.

You're conflating quite a few things here.  This part is simply not true.  It may be YOUR IMPRESSION, but it is not an accurate one.

Now this is a different issue.  I NEVER do radio missions with a team and RARELY do them solo.  I don't like them.  They're simple filler content.  I think a lot of people feel the same way, but I'm just guessing on that.

And now it's an indictment of the entire world.  At this point, you're just being silly.

Slow your roll there, buddy.  Don't blame these fine folk for doing what they do best.  It's well within their right to try to offer helpful advice, but ultimately the OP is not their responsibility whatsoever.

As for radio missions, those seem more like filler unless you're doing one of those Roleplaying radio mission team sessions.  It's RP but while actively super heroing (or super villaining), which certainly sounds great!  I just have to stop posting on the discord and the forums long enough to play the actual game to participate in such a session...

Anyway, OP, if you're still reading to this point, communication is key.  If the people you meet up with don't share your idea of a good time, let it roll off your shoulder and keep looking.  Go to a different shard if your current one is inactive during your regular play time.  It's basic advice but it's the best anyone can give when considering the lack of context.  If you're just taking the piss, congrats, you got me.

Actually I was being nice. Not enabling. Not creating problems.

I do agree with the overall point you made though about feeding attention seekers and reinforcing bad behaviors. I just did not get that from this person. They seemed genuinely confused imo.

This is like watching people “try” to drive during rush hour traffic.  If you relax and people watch it is hilarious.  If you try to “get something done” it is miserable.   Sometimes you can make a light and slide in.  Most times just sit back and enjoy the shit show

So...

Going with Lum's advice, we have "I can't believe the game is back!" to "How do I delete all my characters" a few days later, and "how do I change my global," to this.

Honestly, it halfway sounds like you went and annoyed the heck out of whatever server you're on. Which ... will impact getting teams. (Hard to recruit if everyone has you on ignore.) Either that or you have some set of expectations that nobody's meeting (and nobody has any requirement to,) such as sticking around for more than 1-2 paper missions - or needing a full team for them.

So, start there. What *are* your expectations? Full team on call staying with you for hours? Not going to happen. If you're running papers and only have 2-3 people, so what? Run with them. Get to know them. Recruit between missions instead of standing around waiting for a "full" team. Build up a friends list that way. Look for whatever events are going on on your server - or find a server with events that fit your time.

And remember it's just a game.

Can just start a new account.  *Shrug*

There are several badges obtained through radio/paper missions (at the very least the exploration badges for the bank/mayhem missions you get for doing radio/paper missions.)

First, I disagree with your premise.  This community, by and large, does care about new players and is very willing to teach them "the ropes".  So I can't tell you "why."

Second, may I suggest that if you are learning the ropes you may want to join teams instead of leading them.  There's nothing wrong with leading teams.  In fact, I generally encourage people to do so.  But if you are still learning the game it might be helpful to you to see how others play.  If you do that, you would find that PUG teams are like that not just for you, but for everyone.  People join and then leave for all sorts of reasons -- real life, to play with a friend that just logged on, to join another team doing something else that they'd rather do, whatever.  This is especially true when running radio missions.  People will generally stay for the entire Task Force or Trial; although even then people do leave for all the reasons listed above and more.  To a lesser extent, they might stay together for a story arc just to see the end of the story or get a badge at the end, if any.  But radio missions have no built in reason for people to stay.   So they don't.  If you want teams that stick together longer, you may want to search on the forums for individual servers to find SGs (SuperGroups - sort of like Justice League or The Avengers) or a themed team that sometimes start together at level 1 and play all archers, or all defenders, or fire/rad controllers . . . all sorts of different synergistic teams that play regularly together.

Third, if you really think that the world doesn't care and that everyone is rude and abusive, and you aren't just being overly dramatic to make a point, may I humbly and respectfully suggest that you talk to a professional - a doctor, psychologist, even clergy.  Someone that can listen and offer better advice than a forum for players of a superhero game.

Yeah, that's a good point you covered that I honestly didn't even think of. However, the way I play, I generally grab those after I hit 50...but only if it's a badge toon...which I have very few of. Outside of missions required to get Accolades, I only have 2 badge toons at the moment.

OMG, on Weds, I could have written this very same post, but really about teams in general. My scrapper was on a Posi 1 and a teammate kept transporting my scrapper into mobs to grab the aggro. After dying 2 xs, I politely kept saying, not a tank. So you bet I quit that team as soon as we finished. But yesterday, had a pug, that made up for it. So all's good now. lol

In the game, click "Menu" and go to "Options."  The first section on the "General" tab is "Team Options;" go to the third item in this section, "Prompt Team Teleport."  If you Enable this, you will not automatically teleport when a team member tries to TP you; instead you get a short duration prompt to accept or decline the teleport.

I feel like you should find a mentor to help you out if you are just having issues with how to play the game

If you are truly getting depressed from playing this game I would suggest doing playing and seeking someone out to talk to. If you have a friend you could talk to them or a professional. If you are depressed please seek help (I'm not saying this in a mean way btw)

Best of luck.

Run solo. Learn as you go. Might actually be a better experience, overall, since it would be at your own pace.

People still run radio missions?

No, seriously. They were my bread and butter back on Issue 7 to 13-14, but in the two years I've been in HC I don't think I've run enough radio missions to need more than one hand to count them. A radio mission only gives XP. A Task Force gives XP and merits.

But you do you.

That said, yes, the post history is a bit cringy. I'm sure everyone is evil and mean and forced the OP to delete all their characters and change their global. It has absolutely nothing to do with the OP at all. Just a mean server. I'm sure.

No, really.

Yep.

I had a friend 25 years ago that only ever dated jerks.  She would complain and complain.  Relationship after relationship.  Only jerks.  She of course had no involvement in this happening at all.

Ah well.

I have never left a new player behind, even when the rest of the team quit a Taskforce and the new player and I (on a Blaster) finished it. I love seeing the reactions of new/very old school players to the game and I will help them out on Excelsior (I don’t play on other servers).

Playing CoX is it’s own reward

Posted (edited)

Just put together TF’s. They’re good for a full team. Radios are a bit stale not really fun rewards for them. People want merits. Maybe if radios had a better incentive you’d get people wanting to stay longer.

The depression is on you. Most radio players look for a quick lvl carry. If you’re going to host Id recommend playing a carry toon. Maybe be more lively in groups. Need to keep them wanting more. You’re just going to have to get used to filling your team and broadcasting in LFG for more. That’s the current state for radios friend

Yes. They're fast and don't require much of a time investment. No, they don't give merits, but if you're running them because you want to play but only have a few minutes, or are just shy of leveling and don't have a new arc to start or something... *shrug* they work just fine. Unlike task forces, you can invite people after a couple of them (or even one) instead of being locked in.

Not everyone's after the same thing - even the same person may not be each time they play.

This is something I was going to recommend.  If you don't know how to play the game and want to figure it out, running missions from contacts solo is the best way to work through it.  Scrappers and Brutes probably work best for this, they're high damage and have good defenses so you can solo much more easily.

This also allows you to actually read the mission text too, which is actually pretty fun and often good, if a bit wordy.  I have solo toons that I use just so I can read all the content.  I don't do that on teams, because most everyone knows it by now and they're expecting a quicker experience.

Also learn to use the P2W vendor.  There's some important stuff there.  Like extra attacks will help you when you're low level and don't have too many attacks yet.  Special items like a Jetpack is indespensible for when you have no travel power yet.  Special run powers can help with role play or just getting around.  Also the XP boosters are really handy for when you just want to level fast.

After about level 6 check out The Hollows and Perez Park, two zones that connect to Atlas Park (there is no Tram there, so you have to go to the actual zone entrance).  They have additional content that you might want to try out.  Some of the content is hard and you might need to ask for help.  Have folks join for just one mission if that's all they want.

Don't run Death From Below too much.  I'd run it once on a new toon before starting on regular contacts.  At least until you exhaust the contacts and know what they do, don't pass them up.  Better to solo and get some experience actually playing the game.

And finally the Help channel in game is a good source of help if you just need a quick question.
