I had my altitis under control for about a month until the Page 6 preview got me thinking of alts again.  I’m curious to know what people’s next projects are going to be (don’t have to be related to the new update, but can be!).

My next three are going to be as follows:

Water/Sonic blaster:  I haven’t tried water blast on any archetype yet. I was especially intrigued by the testing @Galaxy Brain did on the blaster primaries showing that water was one of the strongest performers. So, I decided that water would be the primary. I decided sonic for a few reasons: it will be new, sounds pretty cool from the preview, and has a sonar theme that is interesting.

Fire / Bio Sentinel:  In the many discussions of blaster vs sentinel I have always sided with blaster. Not that I don’t like sentinels or think they can’t be viable on any team. It’s just that I’ve always been disappointed with their damage comparative to blasters. While I understand the blaster will always do more damage, I’ve been wanting to give sentinels more of a fair shake. I’ve fully built out two so far: DP/Sr and BR/EA. The dual pistols one is procd out and has a fast chain, but I just can’t get into it the same as my DP/MC blaster so it is shelved. The BR/EA seems to do better damage and is very survivable. However, I wanted a DAMAGE sentinel. So I’m picking fire as I assume it is will have the overall highest damage similar to blasters. I chose to go bio armor because I’m going to approach the build from a different angle. Instead of leaning into the sentinels strength of survivability I’m going to push damage. This means I’m not going to chase soft cap defense. I’ll have enough that along with barrier or a small purple I’ll be fine. Instead I’m going to push recharge and procs. I want to see if it can put a couple of my blasters out of business.

Shield / Energy Tanker:  I kind of cheated with this one as I’ve already started it. As soon as I heard the devs plan to “improve” energy melee I knew I was going to want an EM tanker. I hope the improvements will come with page 6, and even though I don’t know what they will be, I’ve always wanted to get back into energy melee. I chose to go shield for the added +dam and for shield charge to supplement the aoe.  I want this tanker to compete with my double rage stacked + melt down rad/ss tanker for insane burst damage.

Street Justice/Electric Armor scrapper - third Sister.  I wanted something like the scaling +Res in SR, because I was watching the Rocky films when I was thinking about this character, but I don't want SR (not a fan of click status protections).  A straight Resistance set with the scaling +Res unique IO seemed to be a reasonable compromise.  I also wanted to step away from weapon-based sets for a change of pace, and Street Justice looks like it'll fit my tastes.  Plus, I can throw Cross Punch in seamlessly and it'll work visually with the rest of the attacks.  The Amazonian adventure continues as The Penitent Woman (still working on the name) wanders aimlessly following the disbandment of the Sisters after Legionette ran away and Antianeira left to search for her.

Robotics/Radiation Emission mastermind - I played a Bots/TA to 50 on the original servers, but I stuck to my preference of not taking travel powers, so I missed out on having flying robots.  I've also never used the rocket boots costume part.  That's really all the reason behind this character.  I want rocket boots and flying rocket-booted robots.  And I wanted a sentient hyper-optimized data access network, but settled for an operational platform (heuristic experiential learning intelligence, aware).

Illusion Control/Trick Arrow - A former actress who uses stage magic and a prop archery kit she "borrowed" from a movie set's technical effects department.  Mystic Flight for wire work.  Phantom Army set to clone the character, the clones being her body double, her stand-in and her terribly mistreated personal assistant made up to look like her.  Phantasm is her co-star, but she's got first billing.  She does all of her own stunts, folks!  She's the Star of the Show!

No!  I wont let you lure me in!  I am standing at my current alt count until I .... decide I have to make more.

Seriously, update has nothing to do with it, I have none currently planned.  Of course there are a few ideas bouncing around in my head but until they solidify they are just ideas.  New update-wise...I generally like to wait a week or two to see how things go before I make a new shiney.

Fair enough. I had actually lasted over a month without making a new alt until they did the Page 6 preview. That got the juices rolling. Then I started playing with Mids. And know I’m back to into altoholism.

Beta Page 6 hopes here:

Rebuilding my DP/Nin blaster because it will feel like a brand new toon if the secondary does what it should.

Made a energy melee/rad brute for the changes.

Plant/Trick Arrow controller because I had it on live just to annoy friends who said TA was the worst set and ended up liking it more than my ill/rad

Thanks for D-Sync Enhancements! Just wish things like Resist/End, Heal/End and Damage/Mez had a third stat that made them more viable. Suggestions - add Recharge to Ribosomes, Range to Golgis, and Slows to Peroxisomes. These changes would allow for an endurance cost/range, recharge/endurance, and slow/mez or slow/damage enhancements.

My next alt has nothing to do with the update.  Back on live, I had taken every tank armor to 50.  I currently have a rad armor tank at level 36.  When one of my current tanks (I have 4 below 50) gets to 50, then I'll do a bio armor tank as it will be the only set left.  I already made him to hold the name - Alabama Slammer - bio armor/war mace (baseball bat).

I have no idea what the two after that will be.

I never plan based on updates.

Well, most of the time.

Honestly, most of my alts are either "I miss this character from before, time to remake," "Huh, that sounds fun" or "*snrk,* (overheard/misheard phrase,) wonder if I could make an alt about that..."

Posted (edited)

The new alts don’t have to be based on the update. The update just got me interesting in thinking of more alts again. I was just interested in what people plan on making next. Edited the topic to be more clear on that.

I always enjoy testing new things hence why page 6 got my alt habit kicking again. That said, most of my altitis comes from teaming and seeing a combination I hadn’t given much though before in action and thinking “that’s cool....welp it’s back to Atlas Park 😁

I'm currently working on this fire/bio/psi project as well. The really cool thing about Bio armor for sentinels is Athletic Regulation which gives you an enormous amount of unsuppressed movement speed, so much that it will be my only character that does not have super speed (or any other travel power sans combat jumping). My planned build is just about 2mph off of the movespeed cap, 100% unsuppressed, which makes me gleeful. I also did not chase 45% S/L defense but hitting 45% E/N def was pretty free, the build has so much natural regen alongside an absorb shield and self heal that I don't see survivability ever being an issue. Psi mastery gives you a boatload of extra attacks, with mind probe and procced dominate both rivaling the DpA of Blaze, and some psi damage is always nice to cheese enemy godmodes. I am a bit nervous that the PPM changes in the future may mess with the success of the build, but oh well. I wish you the best of luck with your fire/bio!

Will probably also be trying out demon/kinetics MM, for the lovely mix of damage cap and resistance debuffing, though I am not one who really likes to play MMs.

The 3rd would likely be a plant dominator. One of my main characters from live was a plant/psi dom, which was great then but not something I think I will remake again. Then I made a plant/rad dom, which was my only "failed" project here on homecoming, just didn't feel right. Currently torn between trying plant/fire or plant/thorny, but thorny backed confusion damage just sounds brutal. thorn burst (with musculature) provides -40% defense debuff and can take both achilles and fury of gladiator for -40% resist procs, on top of sleet for another -30% resist and defense debuffing. That is some serious shred for some heavy confusion damage.

Funny, right now I"m currently sort of playing my next three alts - or at least I don't have plans for any new ones until I do more with these.  They are:

Thermal/Energy Blast defender (kind of having fun here, but slow going, partly because I have zero idea how to go about a good build for her), about 25th level.

Beam Rifle/Traps corruptor (who's been kind of fun), at about 26th level

Gravity/Darkness controller (high enough level to have all his pets too, so fun), at about 40th level

I don't play all that often because of my schedule so it's been slow going leveling anyone right now.

You know I didn’t even think about the PPM changes. I was going to use psi master as well and that could potentially have a large impact. I guess we will have to see.

I made a plant/savage dom 2-3 months ago and it is a monster. Loads of fun. That minus resist potential with your plan is no joke though. Sounds like it will tear things apart.

I'm trying to redevote myself to alts i've already ignored.  I have too many characters sitting in the 25-40 range that already have some considerable work put into them.  Hell even some of my early game alts need love, there's just too much to do.  If I had to pick a couple to focus however...

Water/Fire Blaster: A concept I worked on a while back that I got distracted from.  I love how completely customizable Water Blast is and how with the right tuning and some imagination you can turn it into pretty much whatever liquid you want.  So despite the paradoxical nature of Water and Fire, I decided to recolor the water to look more like crude oil and the fire darkened to look like i'm actually burning oil for my fire powers or something.  He was fun to play while I was playing him, with all the AoE he's basically a massive inferno of flames and oil spouts.  The hazmat suit for a costume was also a nice touch.

Earth/Energy Dom: I expressed a little while ago that I was struggling to focus on a Dominator build, which I asked for some suggestions to try and nail one down.  This is the one I settled on and was playing until I got distracted with ideas for other characters but I still want to go back and finish it.  The crystal theming from Earth Control seems like a good way to have energy powers too.  Certainly want to wrap him up and finally say I've got a 50 for each original base AT (EATs and Sentinel are still in the works; I don't like Sentinels and have trouble conceptualizing EAT themes since they're far less flexible).

Peacebringer: Despite having trouble coming up with themes for EATs, I had a sudden inspiration just tonight for one, and thankfully being able to adjust the colors helps.  The idea of a rainbow-infused character is one I've always wanted to roll with and while I've tried a couple Blasters (Rad/Temporal and Rad/Electric) with the idea, i'm thinking with Peacebringers and their light-based looking powers perhaps one would fit too.  So that's the idea, nearly every power is recolored to give a ton of variety in how the powers look; she's basically a sentient alien prism.  I've also got to finish a Peacebringer one of these days.  I got one to 41 on live before the shutdown and I feel obligated to finish one as a result.

Some other ideas to work on and finish down the line:

AR/Devices Blaster: My very first Blaster when I started playing.  Dropped him in the old days because it was very much an "edgy teen" character, but with some rekerjiggering and a new name I don't feel so stupid playing him again.

SS/Shield Brute: A haphazard guy who smashes everything around the criminals in his pursuit of the law.  Expect leveled city blocks when he's on the job.

Water/Poison Corrupter: A barista themed character who smites her foes and aids her allies with a copious amount of alcohol.  "The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems!"

Claws/Fire Stalker: Rolled back in March as at the time there were none at level 50.  While i'm sure that's changed, i'm also sure I could get him to 50 and join the exclusive club.

Energy/Energy Sentinel: The one Sentinel build I actually decided I liked, maybe i'll go back to her at some point.

Nothing stated in Page Six really appeals to me (blasters, meh, no obvious impact on the AH, and I already mostly run "underpowered" sets) but I recently started a new levelling project that led to a few new alts:

Stumblebum (Bio/Energy Melee Villain Tanker) -- I wanted to see for myself how terrible Energy Melee is (spoiler: it is not terrible in the slightest) and I wanted to tweak out some Bio slotting choices.  He's a former thug for a master criminal, none too bright.  When his boss and his entire gang broke out of the Zig, he was injured and the gang medic used an experimental serum that caused a slow alteration in his physical state (every 10 levels, he gets a new costume).

Abductor Muscle (Energy Melee/Bio Villain Stalker) -- Now I just wanted the name for a specialist in hostage missions.  I may end up changing the powersets for this name, or changing the name for these powersets, but let's double down on the energy melee // bio armor theme.  Also a crony of the master criminal.  Has no skin.  Kind of gross.

Doc Zarathustra (Thugs/Time Villain Mastermind) -- The aforementioned master criminal.  I modeled him after The Professor from Casa de Papel (Money Heist) on Netflix.  He is a master planner, so prepared that it only *seems* like he can look forward in time to see what will happen next.  His thugs are devoted to him.

Unctuous Archer (Trick Arrow/Water Villain Defender) -- A recent addition, wanted to build around crude oil themed powers.

The project itself is simple:  slow (i.e. no accelerated xp) natural levelling, but very active slotting by level to maximize power at all points.  Active use of unslotters and respecs.  Pushing the envelope of +/x wherever I can.

Who run Bartertown?

I have been playing a lot of shield/mace tank lately; I liked the mace, but the shield with having to click for mez protection...well, that's just lame. I did like the Shield charge, but the recharge on it is entirely too slow to suit me. So, I've made an invuln/mace tank that's level 4 and has about 4 day jobs already. I'm not real sure when I'm going to start playing him...but probably after I t-4 a couple of the 50's I have, and finish a number of badges on red side on the shield/mace tank.

I want to play another controller, likely a dark/dark.

And, I think I will do some comparisons in mids between a dark/fire defender vs a fire/dark corruptor.

I just started a new purge process. I suspect my base bins will be quite full with good stuff shortly. Yea, there are going to be several 50s nuked from orbit. Mostly tanks.

Future plans?

Have a fire/plant blaster that I've been enjoying. She does play more like a dominator with better damage.

Beyond that? Time to get busy on accolades for my existing T4ed 50s that don't have em yet.

Posted

The only brand-new toon I have definite plans to make soon is a Beasts mastermind. I'm undecided about the secondary.

I have several toons in the 30s and 40s that I'd like to come back to. The water/cold corruptor is likely to be next. I have an elaborate backstory for my toons, involving the world's only minimum-security prison for superpowered inmates (located in the Rogue Isles, of course). But I only have two level 50 corruptional officers, they're both unreliable (both as narrators and as teammates), and only one of them is an actual corruptor. That won't do.

Posted

Started a Dual Pistol/Ninja blaster about a week ago for a themed SG team. Rolled an Archery/TA corruptor about a month ago that's up to lvl 43. I don't have anything planned yet for Page 6.

Posted

Next up in my gang is Karcharias... Water/Bio/Lev Sentinel... aka "Shark-bait".

I originally built him just to be a storage mule for my spare PvP recipes and IOs, never expecting to level or actually play him. Somewhere along the line, though,  I figured "Why not?" and decided to give him a shot at being a real member of the crew.

Taker of screenshots. Player of creepy Oranbegans and Rularuu bird-things.

Ugh. I need to do accolades on a lot of mine. I think I only have like 5 toons with all 4 passives.

Definitely looking forward to Sonic Manipulation. I just wish there was a non-gun blaster set with a non-click (or attack-based) build-up. Kinda wish Sonic had gone that route as well... but I am just looking forward to a sonic set that actually works!

And Discount Ninja is a reality. Played with an actual story mish team in Atlas Park! So, we're at lvl 7 (or so). As a "poor 'dude' who ran outta munchies, went dumpster diving and found some gear," I went with a Blaster (hero), Archery/Ninja Training. Costume-wise, the apoc jeans, T-shirt with a hipster dragon kanji, sewed on shoulder pads and a backpack. Sport glove on one hand, while the "Dart" hand (left) is a tech gauntlet he found in the selfsame dumpster. Thinking about going Vig with this guy at some point, but that seems too gritty for such a light concept. Won't be getting too into maximization because, well...it's just not very serious, is it?:-)

Well, anyway, as they say (never? sometimes?) "alts happen."
